Carney: Protests not directed at the United States

White House press secretary Jay Carney said Friday the violent protests throughout the Middle East are not directed at the United States or U.S. policy but are a response to a YouTube video:
"CARNEY: We also need to understand that this is a fairly volatile situation and it is in response not to United States policy, and not to, obviously, the administration, or the American people, but it is in response to a video, a film that we have judged to be be reprehensible and disgusting. That in no way justifies any violent reaction to it, but this is not a case of protests directed at the United States writ large or at U.S. policy, this is in response to a video that is offensive to Muslims.
Again, this is not in any way justifying violence, and we have spoken very clearly out against that and condemned it. And the president is making sure in his conversations with leaders around the region that they are committed as hosts to diplomatic facilities to protect both personnel and buildings and other facilities that are part of the U.S. representation in those countries."

This is proof, the Obama admin thinks the American public are fucking idiots.

LOL blacken, 240, straw do you guys agree with this?
-
The "film" is "reprehensible and disgusting"? Pandering fools. ::)

yea.. it's called diplomacy, tact. The protests are embarassing to me as a muslim. Unfortunately it's a volatile situation that we need to keep under control instead of fanning the flames before it gets too out of control.

Gets out of control?

Gets out of control?
too out of control. I'm surprised it hasn't spread faster to more countries. Haven't heard of anything come out of Pakistan, or violence in Afgahnistan regarding this, for example.

Too late. Four murdered Americans, murdered on American soil, is out of control. Those are acts of war.

Murdered by terrorists, hooligans. Not by a state. We shouldn't hold a whole country, or the government responsible for it. As far as I'm reading the Libyans are fully cooperating and have already made several arrests.

The thing I don't understand is that these Muslims never say a word when one of their own take away their human rights, stone their relatives to death, rape their kids..etc, but one little shitty film gets them all riled up enough to riot and kill. It is hard to sympathize for a group of people when there are protests going on all over the place. They need to fight back for their own freedoms instead of blaming the US for this BS.

how's this related to protests over the video?

Its human nature to always blame the other.. unfortunately the literacy rate isn't too high in these countries. This behavior is downright shameful. But let's keep in perspective that these are a handful- tens, or hundreds- who are causing the problems. Not 'all these mozlems'.

I'm not sure that's accurate. Members of the government could very well have helped the terrorists who murdered American citizens.

Anything is possible, but do you have any evidence that this might be the case? Aren't you always railing against conspiracy theories? I have not heard even one suggestion that there would be any part played by the government. In fact he was a very well liked diplomat. I have not heard a coherent explanation of the attack, only speculation that it might have been an excuse by a terrorist group to attack the American consulate.

Maybe maybe not, the simple fact that all this shit is happening over a video ( which I don't believe it is, it's simply and excuse) is ridiculous.

I don't think anyone has solid evidence one way or the other, yet. And no, I'm not always railing against conspiracy theories. Only the stupid ones. :)
