Title: DISGRACEFUL Mitt Romney's Cairo Attack Statement
Post by: blacken700 on September 16, 2012, 02:20:50 PM
from SALON:

“It’s disgraceful,” Romney’s statement, which was released late Tuesday night, read, “that the Obama administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.”

That’s not at all what happened, of course. The actual chronology goes something like this: As anti-American protests inspired by a crude Terry Jones video began gathering steam, the U.S. embassy in Cairo – and not the Obama White House — put out a statement condemning “the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions.”

The obvious intent was to cool the passions of the protesters. As Marc Ambinder explained, it was “exactly what Americans inside the embassy who are scared for their lives now and worry about revenge later need to have released in their name.”

- The foolishness of Romney’s reaction is glaring. Pretending that the statement from the U.S. embassy in Cairo was anything other than a completely understandable and reasonable attempt by its occupants to save their own lives borders on disgraceful. Romney’s implication that the statement was issued at the height of the attacks is also false; it was actually released earlier in the day, a preventive measure aimed at keeping the protests from turning violent.

But this hasn’t stopped other Republicans – including RNC chairman Reince Priebus and Sarah Palin – from echoing the Romney line. Again, it probably shouldn’t be surprising. This is the kind of nonsense you’ll get when one party spends four years convincing itself that a president is something he isn’t.

Hastert's old aide was on Maher and made an excellent point... "You never put out a press release at midnight".

Romney was factually wrong by blaming the obama admin, but okay, let's let that slide.  He immediately nullified any balls he showed, but then changing position of 'no apologies for the 1st amendment' and condemning the video.

Trying to please everyone.  Hate on obama to get the base happy, then hate on the video to win moderates and left votes.  The end result is that neither are all that impressed with him.

Seems to me there is a disconnect here, why the focus on Romney? He isn't the POTUS, all the embassies didn't get over run on his watch. He didn't fan the fires of the so called Arab Spring, that left power vacuum's all over the fucking place. When it comes right down to it, Obama is a moron for backing the revolutions. Americans getting killed and paraded through the streets.
Typical Obama light the fuse to a powder cage, then try to blame anyone and everyone else when the fucking thing blows up.

Romney is basically auditioning for the job of POTUS and is responsible for his own statements

So far he's basically attacked a American embassy at the moment when multiple embassys were under attack with 4 Americans being murdered

It's possibly the most stupid and ill advised thing done by any candidate for POTUS ever

Obama's handling of the situation is an entirely different subject

And were the embassies properly protected? No they weren't, the ROE's are a fucking joke. Maybe Obama didn't implement them but he sure as hell didn't fix them. If you can't admit that this a nothing more than a distraction from the incompetence of this administration, well then I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

how does any of that (correct or not) change the facts of Romneys actions ?

Romney issued a statement attacking a US embassy while out embassies were still under physical attack and after 4 Americans had just been murdered

He might as well have been in the crowd throwing rocks with the other people attacking our country

Quote
The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims—as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions," the embassy said at 6:18 a.m. EDT, shortly after noon Cairo time.

LOL.  Romney was right.

If he had just stopped there - saying the video makers were created by the 1st amendment - but he didn't.

instead, he condemned the video the next day after taking heat.

This is what people at FR were criticizing him for... For the first time in a while, he showed actual conviction... He stood up for America, stood up for the video makers right under the Constitution.   THEN he backed down and joined obama in criticizing the video.

He's always going to be right to someone and wrong to someone.  But by taking BOTH positions here, he was wrong to BOTH groups too :(

I dont think romney was accurate in blaming the obama admin for a tweet coming from the embassy, as they looked out their window and saw bad guys strapping up.  Unless the tweets have to be approved via white house, in that case i'll concede the point completely.

But right or wrong, he said america doesn't apologize and we have a right to make videos like that.  okay, you just rallied the base.

But then, he pretty much 'took it back' by shitting all over the video a day later.  he's gotta just stop trying to please everyone.  Just please your base and let them win the election for you.  It's pretty much been his problem this entire campaign.  Deliver some far-right rhetoric to the base, then say something generic and pleasing when on national TV that he thinks FOX news viewers won't see.   Can't do that in this digital age.  Pick a message and stick with it.  Obama gained 10 points on INtrade this week - and Intrade was MORE accurate in the 2008 election than everyone, 538 and rassmussen and gallup included.

Horseshit, the simple fact that the first reaction of our government is start walking on egg shells as soon as the cavemen get wound up speaks volumes of the policy of this administration. Their whole view of the world is ass backwards, as if condemning the video was going to make one bit of difference. 9/11 anniversary, no beefed up security, hell in some places basically no security at all.

"As Hilaire Beloc, a British historian said in 1893, “It has always seemed to me possible, and even probable, that there would be a resurrection of Islam and that our sons and grandsons would see the revival of that tremendous struggle between the Christian culture and what has been for more than a thousand years its greatest opponent. The suggestion that Islam may re-arise sounds fantastic, but this is only because men are always powerfully affected by the immediate past; one might say they are blinded by it. But not so very long ago, less than one hundred years before the Declaration of Independence, Vienna was nearly taken and only saved by the Christian army under the command of the King of Poland, on a date that ought to be among the most famous in history; 9/11/1683.”

How about that 9/11 yet again

I guess being 100% correct and accurate in an assessment of a current foreign policy issue is disgraceful in the eyes of leftist shitbags and MSM drones. They typically only show their support for Presidents who don't attend security briefings and are wrong about foreign affairs 100% of the time.
