Not much to look at, are they? In fact, let's face it - the naked mole rat looks like a diseased penis with buck teeth.
But it turns out that it's one of the coolest creatures on the planet. It's practically a rodent superhero. Check this out:
The naked mole rat does not get cancer, ever. Even when blasted with radiation, its cells will simply die rather than develop cancer.
They have incredibly long lifespans (they can live well into their thirties - other, similar sized rodents manage four if they're lucky) and they hardly age. For almost their entire lives, they show very little age related deterioration.
Their skin, nose and mouths are insensitive to acids and ammonia.
They can survive much, much longer than other mammals without oxygen and suffer no brain damage.
They are resistant to all kinds of stress, including plant toxins and heavy metal pollution.

It's how I WISH mine looked on any day :-\

Indeed, a very interesting animal. I'd like some of their genes "implanted" in me. And if I remember well - some of their lifespans change, due to the position in hierarchy (the plasticity of epigenome.. makes one think). The queen-breeder usualy lives way longer than the "guards" (male army, which protects the queen).. So, interesting social relations of these small animals too..
A very nice product of evolution - cancer and aging proof, a task that science is just on the way to bring to reality in a human specie some day.

One of the main characters on the Disney cartoon "Kim Possible" was a naked mole rat...he kicked a lot of villain ass

It's interesting for sure. Wikipedia says that it's highly resistant against cancer, so this is the same situation than with one of the sharks species. The longevity might be explained with the low metabolism, but the low metabolism in itself could bring some interesting findings when researched.

And we find this out by fucking with these animals in an attempt to do that to them. Gouging eyes out to see 'reaction'. Human beings are a plague on this earth.
