Mark Rippetoe and Gallagher judging appearence ?

Also both these guys had relatively tiny powerlifting(Rippetoe was mid 1600's at his best) and olympic lifting totals, I bet Ferrigno could out lift them across all lifts.

i dont understand why people are willing to get fat and bloated just so they could use more weight in an exercise no one cares about or knows how to perform correctly

And it's not like a huge gut even gives you a big advantage. The same kind of numbers can be achieved with a slim waist but it takes more time and discipline.

rippetoe admitted to steroid use and maxed out at an all time best of 396lbs in the bench press for a single

how exactly is he a powerlifting authority

Rippetoe was tight with the York Barbell people and lifters in Texas, Glenn Pendlay had very good success with training lifters out of Rippetoe's gym which added to his fame, he was also tight with Crossfit in the early days. He took weak people and made them slightly less weak.

He's good at teaching beginning lifters that need a strong hand to guide them.

That's basically it.

My gym is all powerlifters (east coast) no bodybuilders...

Bodybuilders are the lowest of the low in the iron game.

They both train pretty much in the same way when they aren't doing gimmick exercises (lots of them in powerlifting and bodybuilding).

I know Kaz and Magee trained like bodybuilders (high volume) and used machines.

In my gym, the power lifters are actually the "clicky", snobby bunch. All the Bodybuilders just come in, train, and go home. They are actually the more humble ones believe it or not. The power lifters are the ones who try to flex their nuts on everyone.

I was feeling shy that day after a previous altercation with one of them.  He said my new posing trunks  were a "nice shade of blue," when clearly they were Perry-Winkle. A bunch of savages they all are.

Bodybuilders are the lowest of the low in the iron game.

I think Mike Francois, Ronnie Coleman, JOJ, and a few others have garnered PLifters respect, since they have dipped their feet into that as well.

One side says that bbers only want big imflated "show muscles", the other side says that all PLs care about is lifts and get fat...

Hmm, everybody in the world knows Arnold, not one layman in the street could name a powerlifter.

Arnold's a special case because of personality and acting, Ferrigno too, because of the acting. I think those two would still be at the top if you asked people to name a bodybuilder.

Powerlifters, and other strongmen have had fame, but it was because of other things like the Olympics, Televised Strongman, and Wrestling.

If you took away Arnold and Lou's acting gigs, Bodybuilder are at about the same level recognition wise more or less.

^^I think both are basically on the same level.
I'd rather look good (the healthy aspect of bbing) than look like a fat gut, who eats tons of fatty, high cholesterol foods and only lift weights. That being said, I respect the irongame, the lifts, etc...

I always wondered what those big numbered PLs would look like dieted down---that's the hard part, the dieting...

That is another area where I think the multiply suits and shirts have hurt powerlifting. Up till about 20 - 25 years ago, I could name piles of big lifters that looked very decent for being as heavy as they were, now not so much. The older guys had more respect for weight class, and being unassisted lifters, they had to cut weight, and modify training.

Now many guys would rather just move up a class, and try to get more out of the suits and technique.
