you have to have BMW flatbed it to the dealer---oil pump issues (for certain Vin #s they say--but we know it will be a widespread problem)

American V8s sounds so much better. BMWs, Porsches and Asian cars have a fart can sound to them. The Viper also does not sounds as good as the V8s. The V12s sound very exotic but not as good as a V8 imo.
Here's a bogus sample of cars that "supposedly" sound the best and yet they all have that fart can noise. See the comments.

The fart or hoover sound comes from the turbos muting the exhaust since they run off the exhaust gases

awesome car.
my friend when he was 19 years old 1989 had a 1 year old bmw m3, the first generation. fricking brutal car at the time, we live in the north of sweden and he said he used to put icepegs (is that the right name?) on it and drive down to the lake where they had a icetrack. it was a rare car even then and the looks of all the other drivers who where driving volvo 142 and 240s on the icelake where priceless when he came with the beemer and made 8 round them.. i love the original m3 a real classic.

Turbo Cobras don't have that fart can sound.

neither do Mercedes, but it may have to do with not haveing cats on the Cobra or the displacement, or placement of the turbos. It seems with the 6 cylinder cars like the Porsche turbos and GT-Rs, they have a "meh" sound or hoover like. With the current M5, when there is a gear change, a fart like sound happens, and it has a V8, and that sound is also on the next m3...
Really, I couldn't tell you why some turbo cars have it and others don't...

True Story
My best friend was living in Dubai... had a BMW M3.... Anyways, one day one of his tires got punctured and he got a flat, but the car has run-flat tires and no spare... so instead of going to get the tire fixed right away, he just kept driving it for days and days and days and days on the run flat tire... until finally the tire caved and the car was un-drivable. So he parked it in the corner of a major road, went home to see one of his friends who could help him.... went back to the car... and the car was stolen!
He filed a report with the police but the car was never found :-\

A car stolen in a wealthy Muslim country, and the car never found, nor a perp...might be because M3s are a dime a dozen, or maybe an inside job?

Lol@ the comment of fart can sound!! Porsches and their flat sixes are awesome a long with the carrera gt, honda cars are not a good example, the LFA and ISF sound good so does the GTR, BMW's and their classic straight sixes and e60 M5 V10 and e90 V8's are awesome. It's the high rev banshee wail at the top end! Don't even get started with ferraris, lambos, astons etc...
Closet you'll get to a F1 race car, simply music. American cars well hahaha yes they are fast, can run the ring faster than a lot of euros, and cheap compared but Germans know how to build a complete "car"
Straight line speed isn't everything, it's steering feel, chassis and suspension tuning all worked into one, only true car guys understand this. American car owners just know one thing make lots of power and quarter mile times, nothing more.
Caddy cts v is an example of following the euros on how to build a car

Even with a catted midpipe the V8s have that deep throaty sound. It's not that. Please show me a video of a BMW sounding as nasty as this:
