President Barack Obama has an 18- percentage-point lead over Republican challenger Mitt Romney among women voters in a poll released today, an advantage similar to his pre-election margins four years ago.
Thanks to Obama’s support among women, the survey of likely voters by Quinnipiac University shows the incumbent holding a 49 percent to 45 percent edge over Romney. Obama leads by 56 percent to 38 percent among women. Romney leads among men, 52 percent to 42 percent. Independent voters are divided, with 47 percent backing Romney and 45 percent Obama, within a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
Obama was favored similarly among women four years ago, while Romney is faring better among men than the 2008 Republican nominee, Arizona Senator John McCain, polls showed.
Quinnipiac showed Obama with a 14-point lead, 54 percent to 40 percent, among likely women voters in a Sept. 11-16, 2008, poll, as McCain led among men, 50 percent to 43 percent. And a Pew Research Center poll of registered voters taken Sept. 27-29 put Obama ahead among women, 54 percent to 37 percent, while McCain led among men, 47 percent to 43 percent.

He also leads with married women. The gap is due to single women, going for Obama. But, if many of those women are young, some of them may not show up on election day.

Hardly! Take a good look at voter registration, particularly in the swing states. That of Democrats is DOWN, big time, in part because (as usual) youth voters tend to have lackluster showings in presidential elections. 2008 was an anomaly.
The novelty of Obama is GONE, period. And with half of college grads, still flipping burgers and living at home with their parents, there's hardly the enthusiasm of four years ago, among young people. If more married women show up for Romney than single women for Obama, or even if, the gap is narrowed significantly, that is a major problem for Mr. Hope-and-Change.
Add to all of that, the beating Obama just took last night, and you have the potential for a disaster on your hands, if you're the president. He'd better get his act together for the next debate, because he got his head split to the white meat in this one.
