Title: Has anybody ever changed their mind based on something posted on this board?
Post by: Mr. Magoo on October 12, 2012, 08:49:36 AM
Just curious

all the going back and forth seems like a time waster. Hell, even the discussion of the VP debate is purely along party lines. Repubs think Ryan did good, Dems think Biden did good, in betweens think Biden did better than expected but Ryan made several good points, etc.

Eh... I have changed opinions on certain smaller things... but on the Pres/VP thing, no, nothing here has changed my mind. Although I have learned things, things I like about the current state of things, and things I don't like about Romney. But on the grand scale, no nothing has changed.

"as iron sharpens iron, so must one man sharpen another"

on occasion my opinions have been altered but not by those ranting and raving, by ppl who can hold a serious conversation and stay on topic with a discussion.

To me this place is more about defining your own views and stances then changing the views and stances of others on this board. The discussions we have here help me understand my own views better if that makes any sense.

333386 thinks he is changing people's minds.

He has called it his "work". I'm surprised he can squeeze it in given that he's a lawyer with an office, but that's why he's so amazing.

I'm independent/right side fiscally, but I do enjoy gaining the perspective from the few legitimate left wing posters.   At the very least, it's another lens to view point and make me think about it.

Changing?  Maybe not.  But he's definitely set up some real estate in yours.

I take most things posted here into consideration.  For example, If a poster suggests I read something, I usually do.  I amenable to change if the arguments are sound.

Nothing has really changed... However the spectacle of witnessing how the other half thinks has bolstered my belief that all liberals are either mindless drones incapable of rational thought or intellectually dishonest turds who hate the United States.

Either way, this forum has been useful in providing a contrast between left and right.

I'm a liberal and a war veteran. There are others like me on here.

How do you square that?

I don't think that anybody is changing their political views, to be honest.

Everyone is just getting more entrenched.

For true evil to be defeated, bloodshed must ensue.

See the Civil War for details.

The South would have never given up slavery had they not been brought to their knees. Even now, the lingering effects of racism still exist, as is still apparent on these very boards.

Whether you joined the service because it is a noble thing to do, necessity, or as a career path ( IE John Kerry among others), being a drone or someone who hates America doesn't preclude military service.

In your situation, I would lean more toward the drone option than the America hating option; however sometimes I wonder.

Also, who else besides yourself on this board is a liberal vet?

Changed my mind for sure.  I used to think libs were just generally ignorant and misguided, but in favor of strenghtening the nation etc.

The libs on this board have convinced me they are out to collapse this society and turn it into a socialist communist hell hole.

It's funny that you call me a drone. I'm betting you get a heavy dose of right wing propaganda who claims that anyone outside of your views hates America.

Please tell me how I hate America. I joined the service after my country was attacked in 2001, and risked my life for it. Is that hating America?

I would say that you hate the idea of freedom, since anyone outside your perception is someone you consider an enemy.

Based on the stupidity you post on this website, I honestly believe you might have been petty and immature enough to join the military just so you could spew your left wing, Anti American propaganda and respond with- "I don't hate America, I'm in the military." It appears you joined the military for three reasons: championing gay rights, destroying the morale of soldiers committed to fighting the enemy and starting a practically non-existent coalition of soldiers who support Obama. Bravo. You have accomplished all three of your objectives in spades.

Numerous left wing whackjobs have joined the service. You're not special or particularly interesting.

He's the only vet on here that never shuts the fuck up about VOLUNTEERING to serve, too. HH6, Hugo, Shockwave, Showstoppa, Beach and others are vets but none of them throw it around like this little douche does.

He joined because had no other options. Hence why he's now TEFL in China for a $425 monthly stipend.
