Veep wannabee Paul Ryan pulled a fast one at an empty soup kitchen, pretending to pitch in and wash dishes that were already clean ... this according to the President of the charity.
Brian J. Antal says Ryan and his wife showed up at the kitchen in Youngstown, Ohio, AFTER all of the food had been served and the patrons had left ... and the dishes, pots and pans were already washed.
Antal says he was not at the kitchen at the time of Ryan's visit -- but says if he was, Ryan would not have been allowed inside because the soup kitchen has a strict apolitical stance. Antal says Ryan's team convinced one of the kitchen volunteers to open the doors.
Antal says Ryan was there 15 minutes and it was just a shameless photo op, adding, "He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall."
We tried getting a comment from Ryan's camp, to no avail.

Its for political purposes but at least they are ACTUALLY doing some work rather than what Paul Ryan did. If he was actually washing some pots and pans....even for a few minutes, it would have been fine but he literally went and did a fake photo of him washing pots and pans at a soup kitchen.

Actually, him, Michelle, and Biden worked a soup kitchen on Thanksgiving. They did a lot more than that...having said that, this is about Paul Ryan....he should have told his PR rep to go fuck himself but he didn't.

Paul ryan knows how to play the game. I'm pretty sure he'd rather interact with people on a "real" photo op, serving food and chatting with them about their interests, thoughts on the future of America, etc. I'm pretty sure he wasn't excited about cleaning empty pots - especially because they didn't coordinate with the owner and chose the one soup kitchen whose owner went out of their way to throw them under the bus. Owner sure didn't have to say those pots were already clean. Embarassing. This one is the fault of the staff - not Ryan.
But Paul Ryan isn't a maverick - he wants to be at the front of the party for the next 20 years, and he certainly can and will be. Romney wins and he's up for POTUS in 2020 no matter what. ROmney loses and he's up front for 2016 - with the full party behind him. Palin was a 'maverick' - and she wasn't invited to speak at convention, and FOX didn't even put her out there with a mic. She was the most exciting thing in the GOP in 2008, and they treat her terribly in 2012... because she didn't play ball.
Paul Ryan is playing ball, doing the silly photo shoots, but showing the GOP leadership he isn't a maverick - he's a safe and dependable option. And he'll probably be presidnt one day, no matter what happens in 2012 election. Photo ops are probably the riskiest thing for candidates, besides the debate. You can't control the circumstances (remember palin with the turkeys getting woodchipped behind her?) But ya gotta do them.
So while this one kinda sucks for Ryan, his target audience (swing voters) aren't gonna care. Only us political junkies who love those 'gotcha' moments are paying attention to it.

Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that he was not contacted by the Romney campaign ahead of the Saturday morning visit by Ryan, who stopped by the soup kitchen after a town hall at Youngstown State University.
"We're a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations," Antal said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. "It's strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors."
He added: "The photo-op they did wasn't even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall."

Ohio is in play all of a sudden. People are broke. Soup kitchens are typically safe options for photo ops. He should have been serving food, where the people moving thru the line and the food are the focus. He's completely on his own there - looking for a brush then pouring bleach all over a pot.
THis was VERY poor planning on the part of the romney campaign to put him in this kind of spot. The cameras should have been invited "on" once he was in place serving food. This video is awkward.
Both of them should be all over Ohio doing photo ops. Just plan it better.
