GALLUP: Mitt Romney Now Has A Gigantic 6-Point Lead Over Obama
Brett LoGiurato|32 minutes ago|4,468|28

AP

Republican nominee Mitt Romney took his biggest lead yet in today's Gallup daily tracking poll, expanding his lead over President Barack Obama to an astounding 6 points among likely voters.

Today's results reflect polling from last Wednesday through yesterday, so there is no data in the aftermath of last night's debate, which went much better for the president.

But Romney also took a 2-point lead among registered voters, a measure that has been more favorable to the president in Gallup's polling. That means Romney has swung the race 7 points in that measure — before the first debate, Obama led Romney by 5 points among registered voters.

On Tuesday, Romney led Obama 50-46 among likely voters, hitting the crucial 50-percent mark for the first time in the race.

Obama's approval rating stayed at 49 percent, which is below the "safe" 50 percent threshold for an incumbent's re-election.

By Gallup's historical standards, it would take a truly historical comeback at this point for Obama. Since Gallup started tracking in 1936, the only eventual president to mount a comeback down 6 points on Oct. 17 was Ronald Reagan. Reagan, however, was behind 6 points among registered voters.

Karl Rove: No Candidate Has Ever Lost With Numbers Like Mitt Romney Has Today (Video)
 The Gateway Pundit ^ | 10/17/2012 | Jim Hoft

Posted on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 3:46:08 PM by nhwingut

Karl Rove told Megyn Kelly today on America Live that no presidential candidate has ever lost an election leading with over 50 percent of likely voters in mid October. Mitt Romney has 51 percent of likely voters today.

“The Obama campaign has pulled down all of its negative advertising. And is now running virtually all positive ads in the battleground states heralding all the success of the last four years. This is very unusual because they have been constantly beating up on Romney. In recent weeks the president’s negatives have risen and Romney particularly after this debate has moved into a lead. You saw it in the Gallup poll you talked about. Six point lead, 51-45. Yesterday it was 50-46. This is the first time that Romney has hit 50 percent in the Gallup likely voter poll and the president has never hit 50 percent in the likely voter poll. And no candidate who has led in mid-October with 50 percent or more in the likely voter poll has ever gone on to lose.“

Check the RCP average. This time, 8 years ago, Bush was up 4 over Kerry. Obama is DOWN 0.4 to Romney, the survivor of the so-called "worst GOP field in history". And, as you posted, Team Hope-and-Change has all but thrown in the towel in FL, NC, and VA.

Wasn't it just a month ago, that the libs were crowing that this was all over and Obama had it locked? I guess, contrary to a CNN republican commentator's musings, Slick Willie's speech didn't seal the deal for Obama, after all.

Obama's problem is that he NEVER admits to failure and never admits or accepts he needs to change course.

People are very different 8 years later.   Polls are different.  Technology is much different.

Dems played that 47% tape before the debates.   My guess is that they have another october surprise to play about a week before the election.

The 47% tape made no difference, whatsoever. They kept using it for a month before the debate; they've been using it, since the debate.

Actually,

Romney was basically in the same position in RCP, as well as Gallup and Rasmussen. And, after the first debate, Romney got a HUGE bounce. Either way you slice it, the "47%" comment was basically worthless. And, it wasn't for lack of trying. Team Obama's been running ads on this for weeks.

for 10 days after the 47% comment, he was on a downward trend.

he turned it around after that.  But "the tape made no difference" is something I can't agree with.  He went down after the tape.  Did he recover?  You betcha.

Check the polls on RCP, between the time the tape was released and the day after the first debate.

If Obama wins (which I believe he will) how soon after it is announced will the right wing start with their CT's and excuses

That WAS what the Dems were saying, during the GOP primary. After Bin Laden got killed, Obama was supposed to have it locked, regardless of who the GOP challenger was. Now, to mention we heard all the comments about how tough it is to unseat an incumbent president.

That's hardly the case, now.

So, HOW does Obama make the comeback.

The enthusiasm gap is going to be HUGE

Obama's turnout is going to go to be down from 2008.   He has converted not a single mccain voter

However - Romney gets all the mccain voters, many repubs who stayed home in 2008, AND a ton of the dissaeffected and dissappointed obama voters.

Unlike you and the other TK members, we actually look at the internals of the polls to make sure they're legit. Same goes for things like the unemployment number. We knew that state leads with Obama way ahead, with samples of Democrats in much larger numbers than what normally occur in that particular area, were questionable.

As things tighten and the polls more closely reflect the ACTUAL demographics of a region (what a surprise!!), we see tighter races with Romney winning or Obama winning by a whisker in some cases and Romney pulling away in others.

Yes.

There is a 13 point enthuisasm gap right now and Obama is not going to get the # of votes in big states like CA, NY etc that prop up some of his polling.
