Why are a lot of fighters so lean nowadays? They used to be a lot fatter generally. Don't they know that fat cushions and is very helpful when fighting? (within limits of course)
I'd rather fight when I was 20% BF than I would now when I'm -10%. You feel every contact much more.

you've obviously never fought at any level...
you need to make a weight class... the lower the weight class the better (for most fighters)... today's fighters train harder and eat better, hence they are leaner

Today's fighters are on more PED's than ever. I would be surprised if they actually trained harder. They just "out-PED" previous generations.

Going all the way back to turn of the century Corbett, Jack Johnson onto Dempsey, Joe Louis, Marciano. All of these guys were closer to 10% rather than 20% and they were Heavyweights

There are always going to be exceptions like Fedor but if you look at most highly successful fighters they are pretty lean.
