About 10 minutes in one direction with car.

About 15 by bike - no homo but cycling appears to be good cardio so if weather is nice, I go by bike  :-X
(of course not in winter huh)

I am at work in 16 minutes depending on traffic lights and traffic.  I don't understand why people arrange their lives in such a way as to require hours of lengthy commutes.  I like driving as much as the next guy, but long commutes cut into quality of life.  I'll pass.  :-[

I biked to my office once on a weekend.  It's very doable but I would not want to do it everyday.  Good work out though :)

I am happy to say I am retired and no longer drive to work. However, when I worked the drive there took 15 minutes tops. Because I worked early hours, I was able to avoid rush hour traffic most of the time. When I was young I bicycled to work which was a 20 minute ride each way. I miss bicycling each day. These days, it is a rare occasion when I haul out my old bike for a pleasure ride.

for the last 16yrs I have worked for a maintenance company. My job is to go to different locations and repair the stores lighting system. I change lamps & ballasts and trouble shoot electrical problems associated with the stores lighting system.

really, a space chimp could do my job after a few months of learning training.

I am on the clock as soon as I leave my house till I get back home.

3 mins if I time all the lights right 5 mins if I hit any lights. It is like 1.5 miles. It literally takes me longer to walk across parking lot and to my desk then it does for me to drive there.

Around 1 hour one way, around 56 miles. I do get compensated half time for my commute and I have a small car that gets good gas mileage. No way I'd live in the city and most of the people I work with have a 30+ min one way commute also.

That's not my idea of "making it" but if it works/ed for you more power to you.

In California there are quite a few people (thousands really) who commute between Los Angeles and San Francisco; that is about 400 miles.  If you fly that route regularly during the week (mornings and evenings) on the same airline you run into each other all the time.  A similar dynamic exists between Washington DC and New York City (or NY and Boston).  The people who do this commuting tend to have a well paying job in one city and family in the other city; family that they do not want to move for one reason or another.  For some people, this is a strain and it can pull a relationship apart.  For others the set up works just fine.

I think few of these travelers would admit it but many of them specifically like having the time away from their family (what they do with that time I won’t speculate on).  Those who like this set up often have a small apartment in their “work city” and a house in their “home city.”  Some commute five days a week, while others remain in their work city during the week and fly home on Friday afternoons.

Bottom line: things don’t just happen to you.  We all make choices.

My job moves a lot of guys all over the state. That was my last year that I worked for them that was 105 miles. It's not worth selling a house for that length of time. Prior to that it was a lot closer.

This is why I drive a vehicle via my contractor.  My personal car got fucked driving like this for 20 months straight.

I drive my beater car.  I bought my first brand new car in 2001...Toyota Corolla (yeah, I thought I was hot shit back then).  Now I drive that same car to work everyday, 11 years and 360,000miles later.  Still runs like a champ, A/C and stereo work fine, what more do you need.  I used to get paid .51 cents a mile from my old job, and paid for my car 3 or 4 times over with those mileage checks.  Now I just claim mileage on my taxes since where I go everyday isn't the location I'm based out of.
