His dad had some cash from his boxing career so I doubt he grew up poor.

When he won all those fights.

He had lots of heat coming off the '96 Olympics, and '98 was his breakout year, so after that he was making serious coin. Offhand, I think after the Zab Judah fight, he was in the 8 figure range. For De La Hoya, he made $25 mil.
-
I doubt it took very long. I remember watching his first couple professional fights when he was extremely young and even then they were projecting him as a future star.

Don't worry, he'll be broke by 40... guaranteed.

and that's where the beef comes with arum, since fmw felt he was robbed of purses prior to baldomir, given his paydays were between $2-$5M under top rank.

World Wrestling Entertainment Appearance – $20 million
Perhaps the easiest $20,000,000 any athlete has ever earned, but good for him. He spent years putting himself in a position to get the pay day.

No way WWF paid him $20M for that appearance. That was just one of their scripts. Their profit only runs in the $40-$45M range yearly. Holders would run Vince the fuck off.

Now that I think about it GT- you're probably right. That number is crazy. A flat fee of $500,000 sounds more believeable, plus a percentage of PPV buys. Something like $1 per PV buy after 250,000 buys.
"WWE Admits Floyd Mayweather's $20 Million Pay Was Fake
Earlier yesterday WWE held a financial conference call to discuss the successful increase in revenue for the first quarter. During a Question & Answer session they outright admitted Floyd Mayweather didn't get paid as reported. For those that understand business, it is consdiered illegal to lie to shareholders, because in theory stock could have been traded due to that figure. Although action could be taken I doubt it will as most shareholders should be happy in WWE's rising financial numbers.
Poor TV ratings were also discussed in the call, although brushed off as just a fluctuation of all TV viewership and nothing at the fault of WWE"
