Still no word about the impact of more turmoil surrounding CBS comedy “Two and a Half Men,” a day after teen actor Angus T. Jones — at one point the highest-paid child star on television — denounced the show as “filth” and urged people to stop watching.
“If you watch ‘Two and a Half Men,’ please stop watching ‘Two and a Half Men,” Jones said in a video posted by the Forerunner Chronicles, a Christian web site. “I’m on ‘Two and a Half Men’ and I won’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it. Please stop filling your head with filth.”
“I don’t know if it means any more coming from me, but you might not have heard it otherwise,” he added.
CBS declined to comment on Jones’s remarks.
Jones, 19, has never been one to make headlines — he stayed relatively quiet through all the Charlie Sheen drama over the past two years, when the actor had an epic meltdown that resulted in his removal from the CBS comedy, and was replaced by Ashton Kutcher.
As “Men” continues its 10th season, Jones has one of the richest deals of any child actor on TV, reportedly making $350,000 per episode. His contract, along with the other actors on the show, goes through the end of the current season.
Throughout the video, posted on YouTube, Jones talks about his religious beliefs, and how they clash with the racy content on the show.
“People see us and be like, ‘I can be a Christian and be on ‘Two and a Half Men.’ You can’t,” Jones said. “You cannot be a true God-fearing person and be on a television show like that. I know I can’t. I’m not okay with what I’m learning, what the Bible says, and being on that television show.”
In a 2009 profile on Jones, co-star Jon Cryer noted that the teen never wanted to know the meaning behind many of the adult-centric jokes on the series.
“Angus has never expressed curiosity to me about the many jokes we’ve made that are clearly off color,” Cryer told the Los Angeles Times. “...At one point I asked him if he wanted to know and he said no. He doesn’t bring it up with me. He’s not like a lot of boys.”
