Title: Condiments w/ chicken. Good or bad?
Post by: Nicademus on December 12, 2012, 06:49:04 PM
I'm eating a lot chicken.  Usually I eat it w/ white rice and I'm good to go.

But lately I've been craving BBQ sauce. I remember watching Ronnie Coleman vids where he used it pre-contest all the time.

I don't compete but I do eat clean and I was just curious if eating sauces with my chicken is counter productive.  I dig soy sauce as well.

He was also on a lot of drugs.  LOTS of sodium and sugar in bbq sauce and over the top sodium in soy sauce.  Try mustard or making your own.

Yeah I realize that and in no way am I trying to be mentioned in the same sentence as him.

The mustard thing has potential. Know of any good recipes for sauces?

You can google b a sauce recipes but unless you're going to start with raw ingredients this is poor advice (most recipes just have you mix several other condiments).

I'd suggest that you look for BBQ sauce with no sugar added if that's a concern. Personally I'm not worried about 10g of sugar in 2tbsp of sauce (45cal, this is regular old kraft bbq sauce) but recently I bought a bottle from Costco that only has 5g and still tastes awesome.

Mustard is good advice though. I have 7 different types of mustard right now.  ;)

Which is what I'd do.  I don't have a recipe per se, but I'd reduce balsamic (to concentrate flavor) with garlic, worcestershire sauce, mustard, s & p, tomato paste and some other sweetener like brown sugar, honey, molasses... something on that order.

I did the mustard today and it's actually good.  I love mustard and I can't believe I never thought about using it for chicken.

I found a BBQ sauce made by Walden Farms that's calorie free and sugar free.  They make syrup as well, is anyone familiar with this product?

Yes.  They have all kinds of dressings and dips.  My grocer carries many of them.  Somewhat pricey.  The ones I've tried are good.

None of the grocery stores here carry any of the Walden Farms products so I had to order them online.

Received them yesterday and purchased the maple syrup and the bbq sauce.

Both are very good.  I would recommend them to anyone that eats a somewhat clean diet regularly.

The only thing I've tried of theirs  that was NOT good was their calorie free jam. Their salad dressings are quite good.

The prices from the site you're using are good!  I noticed them at the store yesterday for over $4.
I've had a couple of their bacon ones and they were very good.

I just realized that.  I went to another site and some bottles were 8 bucks with tax.
