Reminds me of this guy who as child was picked up by some sort of "giant" raptor. There were articles on it, and since he was over 25 pounds, people were wondering what type of bird it was. The way he described it, it had to be a very large condor (not a raptor) or a supposedly extinct large raptor. Coupled with the fact that vultures and condors have weak grip---made for walking, and not raptor like feet, which are made for grasping, The condor theory was thrown out. Then the media went off on a "Thunderbird" kick. The thunderbird is of Native American mythos, and stories were told to children that the bird would carry children away. Apparently the Thunderbird would come before a thunderstorm.
A very large bird of prey with a large enough wingspan (25 feet) that could generate enough lift to lift 75 pound or more kid, would in theory be about 200 pounds. So, they started looking at radar before storms to see f they could pick out large birds of prey.

One of the most controversial eye witness reports of the Thunderbird’s ability to lift a human off the ground comes from Lawndale, Illinois. On July 25th, 1977, around 9 pm a group of three boys where playing in a friends backyard when they looked up to see two large birds soaring above. As the birds came closer they became aggressive and attacked the boys, two of which managed to escape, however the third boy, Marlon Lowe, did not. One of the birds clamped onto Marlon’s shoulder with its claws and proceed to lift the young boy from the ground for an estimated distance of about 30 yards. The young boy’s cries for help attracted the attention of the near by neighbors who rushed to his aid, combined with their help and the boy beating the bird as hard as he could, Marlon was finally released. Although viewed by some as a tale tail, the description given by witnesses of the attaching birds describe a large black bird, with a white ring around its neck and a wingspan of about 10 feet, traits that match the Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) almost exactly.

The "Golden Eagle Snatches Kid" video, uploaded to YouTube on the evening of December 18, was made by Normand Archambault, Loïc Mireault and Félix Marquis-Poulin, students at Centre NAD, in the production simulation workshop class of the Bachelors degree in 3D Animation and Digital Design.
