NBA has one blind spot stat wise: free throws are not included in shot attempts.
thus someone who shot 20 times but was fouled every time gets 40 free throw but shows 0-0 in field goals
this leads to dream taht some scorers like kobe are efficient, when they are just gunners
take any player and give them 36 shots a game like kobe and they score at least 30
so nba greatness recently esp since 90s is really simply ability to take lots of heaves
we wont get into ref changes in 90s
here is a stat: with 36 shots a game charles barkley woulda scored 45 a game
goto databasebasketball.com
get the point fg and ft
halve the ft and add to fg, and half ft made and add to fg attempted
now divide point by total goals [TM]
there you get the real points per game
whats wild is I did this in 2009 and top 4 players were ginobli pierce duncan and parker
kobe was way down like in 20s
its not a coincidence that spurs have been on top for long time, they have 3 massivly efficient players
celtics also not bad
shaq was alos way up there when i tested earlier years
whats interesting is that if a player is efficient, contrary to most street wisdom, it might be good to actually give him a shit ton of shots
it would interesting to see if the lakers had dwight take 36 shots each n every game, maybe they would start demolishing teams unlike now where its spotty

The stat to use to compare players in the NBA is PER (Player Efficiency Rating)
this measures their value when on the court.
http://insider.espn.go.com/guy/statistics
"Players on pace to play 500 or more minutes
*To qualify: a player must have played 6.09 MPG.
TS%: True Shooting Percentage - what a player's shooting percentage would be if we accounted for free throws and 3-pointers. True Shooting Percentage = Total points / [(FGA + (0.44 x FTA)]
AST: Assist Ratio - the percentage of a player's possessions that ends in an assist. Assist Ratio = (Assists x 100) divided by [(FGA + (FTA x 0.44) + Assists + Turnovers]
TO: Turnover Ratio - the percentage of a player's possessions that end in a turnover. Turnover Ratio = (Turnover x 100) divided by [(FGA + (FTA x 0.44) + Assists + Turnovers]
USG: Usage Rate - the number of possessions a player uses per 40 minutes. Usage Rate = {[FGA + (FT Att. x 0.44) + (Ast x 0.33) + TO] x 40 x League Pace} divided by (Minutes x Team Pace)
ORR: Offensive rebound rate
DRR: Defensive rebound rate
REBR: Rebound Rate - the percentage of missed shots that a player rebounds. Rebound Rate = (100 x (Rebounds x Team Minutes)) divided by [Player Minutes x (Team Rebounds + Opponent Rebounds)]
PER: Player Efficiency Rating is the overall rating of a player's per-minute statistical production. The league average is 15.00 every season.
VA: Value Added - the estimated number of points a player adds to a team’s season total above what a 'replacement player' (for instance, the 12th man on the roster) would produce. Value Added = ([Minutes * (PER - PRL)] / 67). PRL (Position Replacement Level) = 11.5 for power forwards, 11.0 for point guards, 10.6 for centers, 10.5 for shooting guards and small forwards
EWA: Estimated Wins Added - Value Added divided by 30, giving the estimated number of wins a player adds to a team’s season total above what a 'replacement player' would produce.
Player Efficiency Rating (PER) League average: 15.0"

I am a heat fan but we need better rebounding and toughness inside.

I don't know...we need someone that can give us 10 rebs, good defense, hard fouls make a jumper here and there off of the bench

I don't have the time or the desire to point out how wrong the premise of this post is. After reading you analysis of efficiency I doubt you would understand it anyway. Kobe is plenty effiecient with his scoring and he dishes out more than his share of assists to help his teammates score. Sunday as an example, he shot 11-19 from the field, 6-8 from the line for 28 points and he dished out 9 assists. All this while playing against the best team in the NBA the world champion Miami Heat. Kobe can do whatever he wants on the basketball court and whatever his team needs. Scoring, defense, assists, rebound. The dude can change his game any which way depending on what the defense needs. To call Kobe nothing more than a gunner shows a lack of understanding of the game of basketball.
Also consider what you said about Dwight Howard potentially taking 36 shots each and every game. First he would have to get open which Dwight has shown difficulty doing this season. Then you consider that his turnover percentage is hovering around 20% this year. So he's getting touches but they don't culminate in a shot attempt because the damn ball got stripped out of his hand. When he does manage to get a shot up he usually gets fouled and doesn't finish at the rim. So instead of a hoop or an "and 1" he gets two freethrows of which he is currently making less than one out of two. Dwight Howard, in his current state, could not get 36 shot attempts in a game. I don't know if he is still injured or he just doesn't want to be there but he is fucking rubbish this year. His low shot attempts are no ones fault but his own.
Kobe has switched into point guard mode the last few weeks and it has made zero difference in regards to Dwight Howard. Today Earl fucking Clark got 17 official shot attempts and Dwight got 9. If you watched every Laker game like I have this year you would understand why. Jeezus, Steve Nash is one of the best playmakers in NBA history and he can't even run pick and roll with Howard because Dwight is setting weak picks and can't catch the fucking ball when it hits him in the hands! LA is better off with Gasol at center than Howard. If I was Mitch Kupchak I would trade the dude asap. He's going to walk in free agency after the season anyway.

Kobe has a high basketball IQ but does not make any use of it.
Howard is having a bad year, he is being exposed, he cant back down in the post like shaq or hakeem did.
Lakers are the bust of this season, dont think for one moment howard stays in LA (with Lakers)
they did well on this road trip, but they beat are bunch of dead beats. Luckily for them the blazers and rockets lost too.
as everyone expected lebron bent the lakers over and sent them back to LA reeling.

Please dude. Kobe Bryant is one of the most talented, skilled, versatile, smart, tough and accomplished players in NBA history. The Lakers are an aging team in transistion. They have changed owners, players, and coaches. They've lost Nash, Howard, Gasol, Blake, and Hill all for extended stretches this year due to injuries. To call them dead beats is an asinine statement. Lebron and Miami are number one right now but LA played them even the entire game. Miami just out executed them in the last several minutes. LA beat the Knicks and the Thunder this year as well. I know a lot of people are in a hurry to bury them but history shows that the Lakers bounce back quickly. Lets not get carried away.

Ray and Bird Man are going to find their groove and then the NBA will be in trouble
Allen has been in somewhat of a shooting slump! Bird man is getting familiar with the system, come playoffs watch out! As long as everyone stays healthy!
