This plot sounds like it came right out of a political thriller. A lot of you may have given up hope on the 'corrupt political system' but news like this, with a Constitutional Conservatives strategy to OUST John Boehnor as speaker of the house. (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/21/House-Republican-members-circulate-plan-to-oust-Speaker) after he 'PURGED' true Libertarian/Constitutional conservatives from crucial committee posts (these two incidents have directly to do with this current situation), does show that there is a major struggle between the Libertarian-leaning faction of the Republican party and the Establishment/Neocon faction aka Old Guard vs. New Guard. This doesn't necessarily mean that the people now running the show are LIBERTY/Ron Paul folk, but do share many of the same views, domestically.
There is some other key factors that play into this but I can't get into that right now. However, I will say that it is GREAT news/progress for us 'liberty lovers'.
It might sound shady that a 'reclusive Illinois millionaire' bought influence but I will quote an interesting passage from the article below, that gives intriguing insight to where this 'millionaire' is actually coming from.

Stephenson, a reclusive Illinois millionaire who has exerted increasing control over one of Washington’s most influential conservative grass-roots organizations.
Stephenson has a passion for libertarian politics stretching back to the 1960s, when he attended seminars featuring “Atlas Shrugged” author Ayn Rand and economist Murray Rothbard, according to those who know him at FreedomWorks.
