Nobody denies that Texas was built on oil. Heck, they're proud of it. They didn't denigrated for years on end, only to sell out to their antagonists, while attempting to beat a tax hike in the process (after preaching that we should pay higher taxes, as part of our "fair share", all the while stiffing his true believers and running away with the money).
