Title: Fundamental Question of the Week: Are guns inherintly evil?
Post by: tonymctones on January 16, 2013, 08:35:12 PM
I think that many ppl feel that guns are inherintly evil. I think that this leads to a number of differing opinions and viewpoints.

Again please do not turn this thread into a usual name calling, trolling or off topic thread.

Please post an answer and your reasoning why.

Ill go first, I do not believe guns are inherintly evil.

One I do not believe that an inanimate object can be inherintly anything. Two, while they are designed to help injure/kill that could me defending yourself or providing food through hunting etc.

No, nor are they more inherently dangerous than any other piece of machinery or tool. They are no more evil than the intent of the person holding them.

Guns are pieces of wood and steel. They are not inherently anything. It is impossible for an inanimate object to be inherently evil.

Plus last night I commanded my gun to go out and shoot my loud neighbor. It in fact did not comply with my order.

Some scholars think that Roger Bacon, the first European to formulate gunpowder in the West, consorted with Satan.

fuck off....  :P

This is a serious post...some scholars believe that the key propulsive element of firearms (gunpowder) is tainted by Satanic Influences.  They believe the casualties caused by firearms from the initial introduction of gunpowder to Western Civilisation to the present are evidence of this...

Guns are tools.  They have done both extensive evil and good in the hands of man.

If the government and people are of the belief that the civilian populace should refrain from possessing firearms, then I implore them to also demand the disarmament of the police and the military.............bec ause, obviously, weapons serve nothing more than the purpose to kill people.

What "scholars"?

Historians who study illuminated texts from medieval monasteries...then publish.  Wasn't world history in the curriculum of your high school?...

I recall a line from the Cape Fear remake: "A gun is only an extension of your hand." A gun is a non-thinking tool that can do nothing on its own. We as humans are corrupt at heart, and that's what causes bad things to happen.

Inanimate objects are amoral. Inanimate objects lack consciousness and reasoning capacity.
