I'm on vacation in St Maarten(I know, it's lame that I'm posting) and although one side is Dutch and the other side French, I rarely hear Dutch being spoke on the Dutch side. Go to the French side, and it's euros and French language, but the Dutch side doesn't use gilders, but dollars. My question, do you guys really go here that often? Talked to my first Dutch folk here last night, first time in 5 years. Anyway, thanks for the answers, now I'm going to drink some beers and eat ribs.

I'm Dutch, but I've never been there. They speak mostly English, since their grandparents spoke English as slaves.
BTW, it's Gulden(s), not Gilder(s) and since 1 January 2002 we use the Euro.
Have a good stay!

You can have the island for 100 bucks and a bucket of protein powder, it's sucking our tax money like a black hole in a gas cloud.... >:(
