Title: Are Martial Arts/Reality Self Defence Systems Obsolete In Today's Environment?
Post by: Phillip Rhee on February 23, 2013, 07:39:50 AM
I have heard some of my buddies who are fighters like me say that in today's police state and gun culture, their fighting skills don't do them a lick of good. What do you fellows who are essentially weight trainers/big eaters (not fighters) think of this issue? I don't see bodybuilders as being fighters because they develop their muscles and leave aside honing their martial abilities although I must admit to having used bodybuilding techniques in the past to develop some muscle for cosmetic purposes.

of course they're not obsolete.  been in the arts in one form or another since i was a kid.  in spontaneuos bar fights or a spontaneous attack the better trained guy will most likely win.  u get in to trouble if you hang around and they retaliate with later with guns or other weapons.  but yeah, weapons are the great equalizer. although there are defenses against weapons attacks it sure lowers your odds of survival

What arts have you done and what arts do you do now? It's interesting to see a Getbigger share his views on fighting since Getbiggers are essentially not fighters.

Developing your own 'power' (whatever form it takes) is a blinker against any other person's power.

If you happen to win because of your power, it would be better to think that the other person lost rather than you having won.

But men are stupid and like to think they can somehow take on the world.

Knowing how to fight is always better than not knowing how to fight.

Knowing how to survive is always better than knowing how to fight.

I read that the army self training system, is "do what you can" to get the gun first.
so, i guess you can just applied that to civilian training.
