I get so frustrated with my generation sometimes. Im a gamer, and my gamer friends know so little about cars its depressing.
My first moment where i realized this was in 09, one of my college buddies gave me and 2 other friends a ride home in his 02 Sentra. His car was filled with figurines, gaming posters, comic books, walkthrough guides, and other flotsam you would expect to clutter the floor of a teenagers room, floating about his car. To the point where the trunk was filled to the brim. That night, he got a flat on the way home. Everyone in the car had no clue what to do, going as far as to say the car 'was broken'.
No one there knew cars came with spare tires, and where they would even be. No one there knew how to use the toolkit. No one there knew anything except for me. After digging out the trunk filled to the brim with trading cards and college textbooks, i put the temp spare on and got us all home. Further rage came later that week, when he called me saying he got another flat. He didn't know the temp spare only lasts a few hundred miles.
Everyone in the car went strait for their phones, either to text someone, google the solution, or to call for help. They see cars and driving as a necessity or a chore, rather than a hobby. Whats more, is they are all pretty bad at it. Which is why now i always wind up driving them everywhere(at the time i didn't have my license, didn't get it till i turned 20). Its one thing not to want to do it, but at least know enough to use and maintain it properly. Today 12:48pm

Why are you reading about gamers?

read the article. It's about how millennials prefer their smartphones over a car, and many don't know the first thing about fixing a car or changing a tire
Now imagine what would happen if we had driverless cars and something goes wrong (think iRobot when Will Smith starts driving the car himself).

Yes girls + sons

lol....boot camp would be awesome for these draftees.

Actually that's exactly what we need. Nothing like seeing your buddies brains get splattered all over your vest to get your shit together lickity split.

I disagree. The military was better and had higher enlistment standards when there was a draft. You were getting a better cross section of society. Today, most people who enlist don't have many options and/or the poor.

;D

Just some fuckhead beating his chest because he knows something about cars.

I went through a period I got 5 flat tires in two years. It was complete bullshit lol. I drove around with a small hydraulic jack in my trunk, rather than the factory jack because of it. For some reason, every single time it happened when it was raining or snowing to make my life miserable.

changing tires in the snow---or when it's about to snow is the worst. The cold, and wet. One of the reasons why I have a blanket (s) in the trunk. And you have to do it fast to stay warm.

Agreed. The whole "gloominess" of a cold/snowy day even makes the tire changing experience much worse, than a bright sunny day.
Luckily for me it can snow six months out of the year here.

I chiseled out a fence post, re dug it and cemented in a new one during a blizzard a couple of weeks ago.

Many old heads say this. When they had the draft, you had a lot of upper and middle class people along with poorer people. And they had to get along and work together.
Nowadays it's different...as the some parents would say, "once you turn 18, you either get a job, go to school, or go the military", like going to the military was the last resort.

Meh you'd be surprised by the number of fucktards on this forum that say that kind of shit.

the concept of nations is very vague nowadays, anyone enlisting now is a mercenary serving corporations/politics interests for a salary wether he s conscious of it or not, most people enlisting being stupid kids who cant do anything else in society and sent there by their disapointed parents. They can travesty this fact by pretending to defend "values" but it wont change much reality.

What did I make up dumbshit? Can you dispute standards have been lowered to fill enlistment quotas? I don't think they used to allow felons in the military. Do you think they had little 'time out cards' in basic training 40 years ago? People that had better options used to join to get their service over with and avoid being drafted.

lifting a car with a flimsy thing to lift it to change tire can damage the car at point of pressure
