That's right all you Getbig cagefighter extraordinaires, another MMA battle for the ages is upon us.
I'm taking GSP.
The guy with the funny accent is gonna bitchslap some Stockton white trash.
;D
-
For some reason I think Diaz is going to take it. I've liked him on and off but I think overall I like him. Dude doesn't have a filter on him and speaks from the heart. You don't have to always be so eloquently put and well-mannered. Sometimes, all that matters is that you back it up. Diaz brings the fight.
I love GSP but I think the time off and all the stress got to him. Diaz is going to get the upset tomorrow night!

Rushfit all the way
Da Riddum

GSP
-
GSP is gonna jab both of his eyes out until he's blind then wrestlefuck him for 5 rounds to seal a 50-45 finish.
-
I hate to band wagon here, but I also hate loudmouth obnoxious Chicanos, so I'll GSP.
I added Diaz to my death pool, so cross your fingers
-
GSP is gonna really fuck him up. Bad.
-
5 round decision for GSP. It will be the same boring GSP bullshit. Take him down, and lay on him for 5 rounds. :-\
-
GSP +1
-
GSP will dominate like henderson did Nate, out jab him and out wrestle him, both Diaz kids are tough as they come, but I think they are a level below the very best guys that hold the belts
-
diaz cant defend a high level wrestler
5 round hump fest for GSP
-
bet online
GSP win round 3
$500 @ +1800 . $500 wins me $9500
-

Agreed, GSP will win by decision, but I would LOVE to see DIAZ win, he hasn't had the charmed life that GSP has and I think it would be nice to see someone who has come from a disadvantaged background win a world title.
-
WAR DIAZ
GSP is an imitating nerd! That does not know what to do when push comes to shove.

GSP...
UFC has too much invested in him to let him lose

Forget the weigh-ins, just the mere look on Joe Rogan's face is priceless.

Dana White was only separating them to crush a cockroach he saw crawling on the floor.
-
one thing for sure diaz will never be given the decision if it goes the distance
this is the ufc corporate poster boy
versus their worst nightmare
be funny if diaz wins dana white and the boys will be fucked
-
Heard the conference call. Diaz is a baby.
-
Dana White was only separating them to crush a cockroach he saw crawling on the floor.
Excellent!!! LOL'd!!!
Yeah, GSP is Dana's poster boy ....but I find him boring. Diaz is a Stockton thug ....but he's never boring. I think Diaz has a real chance in this fight? His dirty boxing gives him a chance.
-
Only way I want to see GSP win is if he lets it become a street fight, no lay and pray BS. Diaz will bring the fight and I think he'll be ready for GSP's wrestling.
I really want to see Diaz win this one for some reason. But if it's not a KO or sub it'll be 30-27 for their poster boy, no doubt.

Isn't it 5 rounds? Title fight?
-
I'm a fan of GSP.
That said, I think Diaz does have a very good chance of taking this fight.
Diaz has probably the best stamina in his weight division, better JiuJitsu skills than GSP and a much better boxing technique. While GSP is an overall better fighter, due to his ability to integrate all skill sets in a more effective fashion, I think if Diaz sticks to a solid game plan and brings it to GSP with calculated strikes and solid ground game, he could submit GSP.
This will, at the very least, be an exciting fight.
If I had to bet, I'd say it goes to GSP by way of decision. On the other hand, I also see a potential upset with GSP losing by way of triangle.

It's like getbiggers are always falling for the hype, they always pick the underdog, like the listen to Rogan and believe his grap, Nick is not in GSP's league, not even close and this fight was over along time ago

this
Sherk ragdolled Diaz years ago and GSP will do the same if he wants...but I think GSP would rather keep this standing to embarass Nick. GSP by decision after 5 round beatdown.
-
gsp will stand through ego untill he gets popped a couple of times
he will then lie on top of diaz for the rest of the fight and get a decision
since sera beat him he has lost the style that made him a star
the best thing that could happen for gsp is for him to win a war where he beats diaz at his own game
-
are you canadian by any chance
lol .....
But it's true though, every Anderson fight, getbiggers say Anderson will lose this one, cause this guy is different, their style don't match and blah blah blah, and same with GSP, they say the same all the time so getbiggers=gullible to Rogan's sale pitch. :-\

But he shouldn't even be #1 contender though, he lost to Condit and had a poor performance.
Also no one performs at 100% coming off a loss, no one...especially to another opponent
and the Montreal crowd gives GSP some crazy hype power, the ball is in his court big time.
Nick has 8 losses and is alway letting his emotion get to him and when the Montreal crowd boo's him, he will feel like he walked into the gates of hell.
It's 100 to 1, this win is given to GSP on a silver platter.

no one is immune to 20 000 boos's, that is impossible, that will play a serious mindfuck on the toughest baddest person on the planet,'
Nick still lost and I thought it was a shit performence, who has Nick ever beat,no one just a bunch of cans, he has zero wins against big names except for BJ Penn who is a light weight and 4-5 years over his prime, everyone else is no name who no one has ever heard of and now he fights GSP, this is a joke.

To be fair, while Nick's resume might seem mediocre, there is MMA outside of the UFC (although most folks wouldn't care to look into it).
Here are a few other guys Nick has defeated that while not as remotely popular as a GSP, are both seasoned and well-known fighters in the world of MMA:
Chris Lytle - One of the veterans of the sport, now at the age of 38 he is retired, but had a solid record against top fighters.
Robbie Lawler (20-9) - A solid fighter with many good fights under his belt.
Josh Neer (33-13) - Everyone knows Josh and he isn't a walk in the park come fight time.
Gleison Tibau (26-9) - Part of American top team with a killer guard and some wicked submission capacity.
Frank Shamrock (23-10) - Frank is a solid fighter and unlike his brother, he doesn't believe in taking a fall.
Hayato Sakurai (37-12) - Solid fighter.
Paul Daley (31-12) - Was one of the most talented fighters in Strikeforce.
BJ Penn - The legend.
"1"
P.S. I still believe this fight will go to GSP, but I don't underestimate Diaz. While I don't think Diaz is a superb fighter (because he is not), he does have solid JiuJitsu and a boxing technique that very few in the UFC can compare with. GSP is just a more complete fighter that knows how to utilize all the tools he brings to the octagon.
-

Oh ya Paul forgot about him, but he ain't no GSP though, not even close, he has not been in this position and will crumple, I predict it wil either end quickley but if it does go to round 5 it will be a 1 way performance.
He should have fought at least Jon Fitch, Alves, Koshchek or Hardy before even being considered for number one contender, in fact any of these guys would beat him. Or he could have avenged his loss to Sanchez but he certainly not even top 6 welterweight and should not be fighting GSP.
The only reason he is cause NIck has a loud mouth and has unpredictable mood swings which makes him easy to promote. This fight is pure cash for the UFC but a horrendous match up.
-
GSP will destroy Diaz!

i agree that diaz is the best guy to promote
the other guys dont have personality
so props to diaz for putting himself on the map
same with koscheck
some of the guys in the ufc have no personality or star quality at all
that isnt diaz fault he admits he talked shit to get the fight but at least you know with diaz
that he will try to win from round one to round five and will go toe to toe
diaz brings something to the division that it needs a villian a bad boy etc

Those where long ago wins. He has not fought anyone currently at the top except for Condit which he lost to, also has losses against Sanchez, Sherk, and Parysan (sp?). He has not proved himself or paid his dues, a fighter always has a chance but he certainly does not deserve it.

Very true and that is why the fans want this fight.
-
I think GSP will win the fight. But GSP's jaw is suspect. I don't think he will stand toe to toe with Diaz. He will need to take him to the ground which he will be able to pretty easily. If GSP's ego takes over and he decides to stand toe to toe, I think Diaz will knock him the fukc out.
-
Diaz is a poor counter puncher. Condit might have ran around, but he also would hit Nick 3 times before his hands started moving. Diaz also has the pity pat style that is unlikely to score a knockout.
GSP never stops innovating. I have a feeling that he is going to finish Diaz.
Anyway, tonight is really going to sort out the welter weight devision.
-
Those where long ago wins.
Well, the Sakurai, Daley and Penn wins were all within the last 3 years. By MMA standards, those weren't too long ago.
He has not fought anyone currently at the top except for Condit which he lost to
Consider that when Diaz fought against Condit, Condit didn't bring the fight to Diaz in a way that was exciting. He (Condit) fought a smart fight, but he worked hard at dodging long exchanges with Diaz. I actually felt that the Diaz vs Condit fight was a bad match-up and a truly boring fight.
also has losses against Sanchez, Sherk, and Parysan (sp?).
Those losses occurred a while back (more than 8 years ago).
He has not proved himself or paid his dues, a fighter always has a chance but he certainly does not deserve it.
Well, I guess it comes down to a matter of opinion, but the guy has been in professional MMA for over 13-14 years, has a 26-8 record and has held championship belts in over 3 organizations (WEC welterweight champ/ IFC welterweight champ / Strikeforce welterweight champion). I think it is more than fair to say that he has paid his dues.
Either way, I think tonight's fight will, at the very least, be entertaining.
Don't be surprised (even though I HIGHLY doubt it will happen), if Diaz walks away with a win.

True... but it wasn't that long ago that Penn put a beating on Diego Sanchez?
And Diaz beat Penn with brutal striking ......GSP had a tarnished win over Penn due to his body being smothered in Vaseline? UFC have since banned this option ...... and rightly so.

Well, they did have footage of GSP's corner applying it to his back? It was all on film? Dana White was pretty mad about it?
That said....... I am sure GSP would have still beaten Penn regardless.
-
anyone else think gsp looks extremely skinny for this fight?
that is one way ufc manipulates the outcome of fights- notify the fighter he wants to lose that he will definately be drug tested after the fight.
look at how all the Pride guys looked when they came over. that way, they are way down on power and aggression and lose. so dana white can declare how much better ufc is than pride.
i'd hate to say it, but i see it as a sign of gsp losing.

Grant, my biggest issue with Penn is how he wasted a good portion of his potential.
He was hugely talented, but his cardio and physicality always seemed sub-par.

come on bro, you of all people should know that he is skinny struggling to make weight, you know how flat you can be when you cut 12-13lb over a 24 h period, the guy will be 182-183 tonight and will be just as big as he is in any other fight.

I think Penn has a god complex and even if he juiced up and busted his ass in the gym, he didn't have the athletic physique of what the a lot of the guys 2day have. He'll have diabetes 10 years after he retires.

GSP's fights have been so friggin boring over the past few years. I can't even remember the last time he "finished" a fight. Most all his fights go to the Judges decision.

Good point!
Takanori Gomi has been a killer for a long time and Nick beat the shit out of him.
Like I said, while my mind says GSP will take it by way of the judges' decision, Nick could provide a major upset.

There you go bro
Thanks for the link bro - Hendricks fight was the best of the night - personally I was surprised it was a unanimous decision, I thought Condit won it.
And Diaz was completely exposed by George. Diaz needs to train more like a mixed martial artist, forget the triathlons and such, lift some weights and improve his wrestling and stop treating each fight like it's a school yard brawl and fight a tactical fight. Probably doesn't matter, he doesn't seem to have the insight to know how to go to the next level and tonight he said he was going to retire (again)
-
Is GSP going to only fight in Canada from now on? His last 4 fights have been in Canada..
-
Well one thing was for damn sure is that Nick did not deserve to be in there with GSP, it was a complete one way show, lmao at anyone saying Nick had a chance, he isn't even top 8 welterweight.

Interview after the fight,GSP is classy as always.

While I do agree that GSP won fair and square, just as pretty much everyone had expected, I do think Diaz has paid his dues and did deserve a shot since it was in the works for many years.
That said, regarding him not being a top 8 Welterweight, what do you say about these dues he has paid?
Over 13-14 years in professional MMA
A record of 26-8 prior to fighting GSP.
Welterweight champion in 3 different organizations: WEC welterweight champ/ IFC welterweight champ / Strikeforce welterweight champion.
The UFC ranks him as the 4th best Welterweight in the world: http://www.ufc.com/rankings (http://www.ufc.com/rankings)
Sherdog ranks him as the 4th best welterweight in the world: http://www.sherdog.com/news/rankings/5/Sherdogs-Official-Mixed-Martial-Arts-Rankings-50581 (http://www.sherdog.com/news/rankings/5/Sherdogs-Official-Mixed-Martial-Arts-Rankings-50581)
He has defeated some of the best names in the sport.
He (Diaz) certainly lost the fight yesterday, but it was sure as hell not a battle. Condit versus Hendricks was a true battle in my opinion.
GSP versus Condit was another great fight. Yesterday, that fight was garbage. GSP fought a smart fight and took the win.
Diaz is nowhere as good as GSP. Diaz doesn't employ all of his tools in a calculated fashion that would allow him to defeat a guy like GSP. What Diaz can pull, if the other fighter slips even a little, is an upset.
"1"
P.S. Regarding his supposed retirement, I give him a year or so before he is right back in the octagon. He pulled that card before and spoke about doing professional boxing instead, but that didn't go anywhere..

Eves Laveine needs to get fired...
Too many times he has been called out by Dana White, Joe Rogan and every fan with a pair of functional eyes..

diaz earned his shot
he was flat tonight like he had lost his edge
i hope hendricks can neutralise gsp's wrestling
its getting shit to watch he doesnt even try to finish guys anymore

P.S. Regarding his supposed retirement, I give him a year or so before he is right back in the octagon. He pulled that card before and spoke about doing professional boxing instead, but that didn't go anywhere..
Did he pay his dues as a fighter? YES, at thislevel? NO....
I don't think he has payed his dues at all for #1 contender spot. How on earth can someone be #1 condender if they lost their last fight?
But more importantly how can someone be #1 contendor without beating even one of these guys;
Fitch
Alves
Hardy
Koschek
Damian Maiya
Condit
Kampmenn
Hendricks
How he just leap frogged these guys is beyond me and yes everyone I just mention can smash Nick IMO. How sherdog ranks him in 4th is mind boggling to me, how?
Hendrick, there is a man who has payed his dues big time, wins over Fitch, Koschek, Kampmenn, and Condit. Hendricks has a way better chance against GSP and yes that was an amazing fight between him and Condit and if it would have been a 5 round fight Condit would have won but Hendricks brought it big time, what an animal.
and yes I agree Nick will be back next year but fuckman why is he so miserable? :-\

Regarding how he leapfrogged over the guys you listed, it comes down to taking a closer look at who Nick has fought over the years and defeated. Then, when you take a look at the big names he has defeated, you have to take into account who those guys defeated prior to taking on Nick. Based off of those direct and sometimes indirect statistics is how the UFC and Sherdog have Nick ranked as the #4 Welterweight.
Example, Junior Dos Santos is ranked higher than Fedor, but Junior has not fought at the level that Fedor fought for those two decades of dominance. But, since Junior fought and defeated Werdum, who in turn had consequently defeated Fedor, Junior then found himself ranked higher than Fedor (Prior to Fedor even losing to Big Foot & Henderson, they had Dos Santos ranked above Fedor). Their logic might seem odd, but it does make sense.
Now back to Diaz..
Did you see the post-fight press conference?
Look at Dana's face every time Nick talks to the media. Dana LOVES IT!
He knows damn well that Nick Diaz is a huge draw for big card events and Pay Per View revenue. Notice how as soon as Nick showed up to the press conference, it went from being a boring Q&A session to an exciting, anything-goes media event.
Nick took that conference and started to promote both a rematch with GSP or Condit and/or a possible super fight with Anderson Silva. Not to mention that he even went on about his trials and tribulations regarding his tax evasion over the course of his entire life. He is good for TV, good for revenue and throws people off their game. Dana is a huge fan of the WWe (Remember Brock'$ magical and short term reign as champ?) and their ability to make staged/choreographed fighting entertaining by way of it's behind the scene stories. What Diaz does it bring that level of circus theatrics to the UFC.
The guy is nuts, but he is entertaining to watch.

Y'a think. Even when he wins (BJ Penn), the guy gets punched into oblivion. His brain must be liquified by now.

he is a skilled striker and pretty good grappler etc but I think both of Diaz are literally crazy .. he makes nate seem "normal"

He is but he's not exactly a cautious fighter. And he's been around. So that doesn't really bode well for his mental sanity.

I felt VERY awkward when White was talking to Rogan about the next season of the TUF where there will be males AND females in the house. That much testosterone (plus the alcohol induced kind) under the same roof as a female. Naw, there won't be any sexual harassment, innuendo, or shenanagens going on. I don't think I am convinced that Dana really even likes the fact there is a female division.

Agreed.
I think that for as much as Dana likes to make money for the UFC, the idea of a female division still makes him uneasy.
The female division would allow the UFC to reach a broader market, bringing in a bigger fan base, which would bring in even more money. Unfortunately, it won't be without its obvious problems (sexual harassment, innuendo, or shenanigans), problems that the average house of guys could simply overlook and chalk up to locker room shit talking. It can get tricky if one of those guys comes under the influence and then tries to harass one of those ladies.
That said, I like Ronda Rousey. I think she is a very pretty girl and highly marketable. While I don't think she is nearly as impressive as cyborg was, it's a start and could lead to some interesting matches.
If they do get the female division going, maybe their next step will be the tranny division. We are already seeing much interest in that potential circus sideshow act.

Condit did amazing, especially in the third but Hendricks controlled the entire first 2 rounds, take down after take down and he had some good hits striking as well, if the fight was 5 rounds Condit would have won though

Condit is all class too, also doesn't cry like a bitch like Diaz after losing, Condit has lost his last two fights too wrestlers, and when they asked him what he needs to do, the first thing he said, is I need to work on my wrestling. Now why the fuck can't Diaz just give himself an honest appraisal of his performance and where his game is lacking. He needs to be physically stronger and better at wrestling (it's not rocket science). He really needs someone honest supporting him telling him 'How it is' instead of him thinking 'He is the man'.
Diaz needs to Forget triathlons, do some strength training and work vigilantly on his wrestling and go see a sports psychologist coupled with some decent PR and media management.

I wonder what will be worse....
1) The ratings for the "live" season of TUF
2) The ratings for the TUF with females
I would imagine there will be more "in fighting" in the house among the women than guys do. Also, is Dana ready to handle the backlash of female "emotions" coming into play with all of this. I forgot how long the fighters are all kept in the same house, but it is a fact that women's cycles tend to start coinciding with other women when they are grouped together.
Is the average guy really interested in the fighting or is that same person really hoping for a "nip slip" or possibly letting this feed into age-old sexual nature of two women fighting. I mean, talk about a mind fuck. Watching two guys grapple is supposedly "gay", will watching two women fight make me hetero?
-
condit worked offensively from the guard
Agreed, I think the work he did of his back neutralised any advantage from Hendricks takedown, Hendricks never once capitalised on his take-downs, it was more used as a counter to beginning to lose in the stand up exchange. I actually thought Condit won the fight, no way it was a unanimous decision. Condit finished like an animal, he was literally getting up from a take-down and rushing in to bang again, snarling and focused, I thought he fought a great fight.
