All you need now is to dig a hole for your plumbing.

Almost everyone builds a home for himself here at some point..... I guess these are cultural differences.

Best thing you can do.
Its my dream to build my own home. Substantial plots here are very expensive and quite hard to find.
Im currently clearing an acre of land for a customer who has permission for 3 houses and the plots are going to be worth £120,000 each :-\

Same here everyone has a cabin.

The trick is build the fucking thing before you start worrying about sewer and water.

Americans seem to be incapable of imaging a world that doesn't revolve around suburbs, suv's and starbucks.

The one this is to insure the land is properly surveyed and marked. The legal costs of any possible errors can be more costly than the land itself.

Whats a Suburb?  My house was built before the Civil War out of Heart Pine, hand hammered Iron nails and good old Slave Labor and the nearest Starbucks is over an hour away.  Fuck off.

Canada doesn`t have anything good at all in my opinion.  Who wants to live in a Cabin in the Snow?  Not me.  I`ll take mosquitoes and heat over snow and misery.

I don't know man.... long and sometimes severe winters can be a pain but personally I appreciate the lack of nasty bugs (not that I would be scared of them)  ;D

It doesn't get very cold in a lot of parts. The cool weather and clean environment provide awesome views like this one.

The lens on my DSLR broke so I can't take the best nighttime shots to share with you guys, but I can go on my patio or chill on my porch and look up to see stuff like this on the regular. Not to mention, the hundreds of billions of stars and galaxies that twinkle super vividly. 8)

I went to nova scotia once for about 2 days and it was miserable. But western Canada is quite pretty. Vancouver was  overrun with junkies and bums though. That was 10 years ago, don't know if it's changed

I'm putting an 800 square foot addition on my house now, with a total of about 1400 square feet total remodel. I'm managing it myself and its pretty much a nightmare but it is closing out soon, and I should be back in in two weeks. They are painting today and going to finish trimming out the downstairs this week with carpet and hardwood being finished by the beginning of next week. Set the vanities, clean and then boom, I'll be back in.

That's the deal breaker for me. If there isn't a Starbucks within a mile, I would go crazy.

I built my own cabin on 50 acres in the middle of nowhere. Did it with cash and no longer pay rent or a mortgage.

This guy spent 4 grand. Imagine what you could do with 10 or 20 like I did.

you could build a two bedroom house with about 5 grand in materials

There is a local coffee shop that is much better with fresh baked goods and any kind of coffee you could ever want.

Yeah the canada is cold nonsense is a total joke.

If you wear proper clothing it's a non issue.

Being to hot on the other hand is total fucking shit.

Of course winter does suck, but that's purely a sunlight issue. And I'd much rather a few short days, for a few extra long  ass days in summer.

The sad thing is this video just goes to show you how over inflated the cost of living in the city has become. We've become a bunch of soft pussies.

Love this guy.  I bought his book Simple Solar Homesteading a few years ago.  Best way to get a house built.  Ebook is only 7 bucks and he gives you everything you need plus a ton more.

this dude house is so cheap and shitty...he doesnt even want to live in it..so what's the point ultimately. Btw it looks like he has way more money than goodcum in the first place to start all these projects.

nevermind the haters who say you need toilet lines, water etc.

no shit, ofc you do.
it's pretty easy to build old fashioned toilets outside your home, just digging a well, and using only cold water from snow/rain, store it in summers. And use a wood stove to heat house, water, food...People considered this being the top of confort for centuries. What is the point of this dude projects if he still needs electricity and gas just like in a normally equipped house, minus the confort and room. If you go for autonomous, then make it fully autonomous from the get go. Looks like an amateur project full of mistakes that went so wrong you re wondering if you shoulntd start it all over again from scratch.
