I actually met Trevor twice and got to talk to him about his Beyond Failure (Demon) Training. I still have the program somewhere around my house. Very intense program and i couldn't handle it.
Very smart guy and he was just like Dante in many ways.

some of his stuff was sound but some of his strength claims were laughable. pure ego. he also used to infer that if he ever got ripped he would be like 330. but he never even got close to 15% bodyfat let alone single digits so it was all erroneous.

At the time I had no idea what G E A R meant for the title of his magazine but I thought it was a good piece to read, even as a natural. Trevor's writing heavily influenced my training style, even to this day, for the sheer factor on how important raw intensity and passion is with training.
I remember doing BFT Training at 17. Even at that age with my hormones at the time the older guys at the gym were going "god dammit dude, that training is for juiced people". The longest I was able to do that style of training was maybe a month. I'd literally have to sit down after a set of legs because I no kidding could not stand. I would go home at 5 pm and just fall asleep because my body would just force me to. I'm still natural and train similar to it still today. If I had a training partner I could trust I would still do it in 2-3 weeks bursts.

That training is stupid. You should be training to improve, training so you are so broken down your muscles won't recover unless you take 10+ days between workouts (which you'll never do) won't accomplish anything except being a hero in the gym.

I'm just over 6'2 so quite a bit shorter than Trevor and went up to as much as 250 once. I felt (and looked) like utter shit. I cannot imagine adding even another 20lbs to what I was back then, nevermind even approaching 400.
But some of you guy said he's a good people, so RIP Trevor.

He may have been cool, but it seemed to me that had had a 4th degree belt in Bullshito. Dorian at 320 or Ronnie over 300 looked way more impressive. I think he was scared to diet down, and liked being this big dude...much like Vic Richards.

my honest opinion is trevor was full of shit- he wanted to make out he was a mystic oracle of knowledge. whereas he was in reality an insecure fatty who lied about his gear use, his lifts, his weight etc. he was about 25-30% bodyfat. now lets say he was this claimed 400 pounds. thats about 280 of lean tissue- only lets consider the water as well. I reckon if he had dieted which he never did he would have been a blocky 220. and at 6'2 thats no fucking hill of beans.
by bulking permanently he could hide away from it and never prove if he had anything under the padding. but he never did. same as it tales of being a martial arts master- etc etc etc etc

That type of training is for no one. Just an injury waiting to happen. After a workout it's ok to be a bit tired but you shouldn't feel like you have been run over by a truck. Or feel anxiety over upcoming workouts. That kind of approach just burns people out.

I didn't say it was OMG THE BEST WAY TO train. I'm not a crossfitter. Everyone who does this workout thing knows there is no "best" way to train.
Personally, I still like to push myself, not just physically but mentally. Also, it's not like I was using the limited ROM in the video he was doing.

Pizza, chocolate, cheeseburgers, french-fries, kentucky fried chicken, chinese food, ice-cream and soda. No, no, this is not the food list for my next holiday party. This is, in fact, what I have come to learn is the mainstay of most succesful and huge pro s diets in the off-season.
Clenbuterol, lasix, cytomel, E.C.A., DNP. These are,in fact, the tools a lot of Pro s use to insure that what they eat in the off-season doesn t result in spare tires, tits and a gut.
I apologize if I shattered anyone s misconception about what the Pro s eat. The fact is, the metabolism of the average high level amateur or pro is kicking at a higher level than your average Ed. Because of this, they can get away with eating whatever the **** they want pretty much all year long with the exception being contest prep time.
Personally I feel that, unless you are holding quite a bit of bodyfat, it is fool hardy to eat clean all the time. You need look no further than all the big-boys in the sport to find out if this theory holds any water (and fat too!)
You look at someone like Shawn Ray. Great bodybuilder no doubt, but great for circa 1987 where his physique seems to have been stuck in the past 12 years. "Eating Clean" has resulted in a number of pro s who s physiques have remained stagnent and unchanged.
I remember a conversation I had with Ian about the difference between the non-american bodybuilders and their american counterparts. Aside from making dieting even harder than it already is come contest time, it tends to keep the metabolism stuck in neutral. Shocking the system every now and again always keeps the metabolic rate high and in doing this allows more muscle mass to be built, which the last time I checked was the reason bodybuilding became a sport in the first place!
How many pro s started their careers eating chicken breasts broccoli and potatos, only to make zero progress until they started eating everything and anything in site! You don t pack on size eating like a gymnast.
I feel that the smart move to make for an off-season bodybuilder looking to acquire new size is to make sure they get in 450-500 grams of protein per day and then eat whatever the hell they want within reason. I m not suggesting a diet of twinkies and ice cream, but if you desire a little snack after you get in all your nutritional needs go for it. If controlling fat is a concern, you can always cut back on the carbs.
Following this rule has resulted in more freaks than you can imagine. Why is it that someone like Lee Priest carries 20lbs more tissue than Shawn Ray and is a good 2 inches shorter? It s in the eating I guarantee it! Both use steroids, and in fact, Shawn has used them for a longer time period as he is both older and has been around longer. For those who think that the difference lies in the amounts I say simply that you would be surprised how far some pro s get on training and eating like a ****ing animal. People like to chalk steroids and gear use up as the deciding factor on why they don t look like the Pro s when the reality of the situation is that there are multiple factors at play. But it s always easier to point the finger and say "he s a total juice monster and uses a gram of test every day that s why he s a pro and I m only 215lbs" "I m not willing to do that to my body!" Yet these same people take offense when they hear the whispers and assinine comments from the general public who think "I could look like that guy, all I have to do is gobble up lots of steroids everyday".
In conclusion, I would suggest and offseason program that relies heavily on protein (450-500 grams a day) and then eat basic, high calorie foods. Things such as milk, whole eggs, steaks and pasta have resulted in more mass then broiled chicken and broccoli every have. Remember, fat can always be stripped off, muscle is a little harder to put on. Pack on the muscle and let the fat come along for the ride then give yourself time to tighten things up and burn off the fat. Concerning yourself with appearance all year long is a sure fire way to keep your physique from causing heads to turn. There is a time and a place for everything and as the Zen monks say "You cannot serve two masters at once."

No kidding. We had a kid at my gym who is very close like him lol. He was 330lbs in the offseason and thought he was fucking huge and cool, thought he'd be like 265-270 on stage.. his first show he did he looked 30 weeks out from a show at 250lbs lol. He is dieting again now from 330, he needs to be 225lbs on stage to look decent and he's 4 weeks out and fucked after dieting for 6 months. Bunch of fucking delusional retards. No one ever knows how much weight they are going to need to lose until they start dieting. I learned quickly, getting fat does not equate to muscle or hugeness.
Trevor would need to lose easily 100lbs in order to look decent.

I say that the Super Heavy division has had a hand in ruining bbing. Because many of the guys try to be 250 and over, without growing into the weight. And they look terrible.

I remember reading Trevor's articles and website back in the day and he always prefaced things about how busy he was ......which just told me he was not busy at all.
