I believe these numbers cause who would admit 245 clean and jerk, that is kind of low, also 540 squat ain't all that either so the bench and the deadlift remain the only 2 impressive lifts.

Hell no, the bench was done at 22 years old, he said it in his book.

Thats not what he said today. ;)

I don't believe him. :-\
-
Were those squats parallel or 1/4 squats from Pumping Iron? ;)
-
It looks like he's mentioning both gym lift and contest lifts through various point in his career so the numbers don't seem too far fetched.
His last official Powerlifting meet numbers were -
Squat 215 kg, Bench 200 kg, and Deadlift 310 kg.
The #500+ bench is the hardest to believe, but if it was a bulked Arnold, and a sloppy gym lift, maybe. I haven't seen any official meet reports that put him over mid #400's.
-
Bench is interesting...Drasin said the highest he saw him go to was 450 IIRC

ARNOLD TRAINED WITH MODERATE WEIGHTS
IN THE EARLY DAYS HE DID SOME POWER LIFTING
BUT HE MADE HIS BEST GAINS WITH MODERATE WEIGHTS AND ALSO UNDER GIRONDA'S GUIDANCE

I understand how that mind set works though. Sometimes i casually say in conversation if i am giving a motivating pep talk that i benched 400lbs when i only really ever benched 375.

Interesting link here (http://www.gmv.com.au/default.asp?pageid=HOME&template=CONTENT&sid=283) with Arnold's powerlifting results and Olympic lifting results.
Wiki says - In 1967, Schwarzenegger competed in and won the Munich stone-lifting contest, in which a stone weighing 508 German pounds (254 kg/560 lbs.) is lifted between the legs while standing on two foot rests.
Personal records
Clean & press – 264 lb (120 kg)[28]
Snatch – 243 lb (110 kg)[28]
Clean & jerk – 298 lb (135 kg)[28]
Squat – 470 lb (210 kg)[28]
Bench press – 440 lb (200 kg)[28]
Deadlift – 680 lb (310 kg)[28]

If you've never seen this done, the stone has a ring or T handle embedded in it.

@ 17 years old. ;)
He is just getting old, nothing more to it, I have read his books and he says; When he was 19 years old he benched 440lb in competition, so it is actually provable and he did 500 when he was training with Franco and Franco did 535. Franco was a stronger bencher then Arnold.
Now get this, he also said he did 225 for 60 reps once, this one I think is exaggerated a bit.

I can't see the difficulty in this one other than the thin handle being brutal on your hands.
-
Oh, those two are from the Munich contest, I just put them both up because the first one gives you a better look at the stone in that contest, as I wasn't sure if folks had seen them before. Modern events use a rig like this now -

If he could handle that kind of bench press, he would have toyed with 405 for 10 all day long. And that wasn't happening.

he did 405 for 8 reps in front of people who witnessed it., 500 is not that much for someone who mega juices and trains heavy, not hard to believe that the best bodybuilder in the world at the time can bench 500 when a nobody gym rat like me has done 500
-
nobody gym rat
Don't be too hard on yourself mate, things will pick up soon. :)

arnold numbers are easy to believe, not amazingly high, not shitty low.
Would be surprised if arnolds info clashes with his book, according to arnold in the book john grimek was mr olympia. Now we know it was the ghost writer fucking this up just can't believe it went to print that way
-
he never cared much for strentgh . he wanted to be a great bodybuilder first and foremost . and he became king there not in lifting
