I guess you are unaware van damme fought competitively? His fight record is pretty impressive.
There is a story somewhere about that whole incident explained by mickey rourke where he was said van damme was infact drunk and had said zito has no heart. zito confronted him about what he had been saying and sucker punched van damme,  zito was pulled away. Rourke also said zito sucker punched him because he knew van damme could take him and he did what he had to do.
Just to add rourke is no fan of van damme and has bad mouthed him publicly.
