In his head, he didn't kill anyone who was missed.

TBH he was a bit of a dork, for all his bravado.

so do you think it happened or was just in his head?

i find the book comes to other conclusion than the movie

It was just in his head. Well, according to the movie it was all in his head. Not sure how the book plays out.

Vanity, insecurity, personality disorders, steroids, perversion, delusion and illusions.

Patrick Bateman would be an excellent getbig poster.

The ending to the book and movie are the same.

And yes, the book was a thousand times more violent.

I'm pissed I wasn't an 80s I-banker.  What a life.  Just INsane, and making the world better with productive corps, as opposed to crony obama green fail handouts.

hm.
yah can imagine.
but they were busy out poshing eachother instead of sex.

if he was average kinda banker, or his case, one of the best looking, then the life wasnt all so wild.

they still had to show up at work, they didnt do much, but presence was required.

they did bit coke on the weekends and ate at fine restaraunts.

and little bit sex here and there.

and still always broke, on the verge of bankruptcy for the lifestyle and places where they lived ,they lived kinda paycheck to paycheck.

thats mentioned in the book.

not overly exciting.

the idiots who inherit wealth and blow it all in record time on coke and whores have more quality time per maonth by far, lol.

It was just in his head. Well, according to the movie it was all in his head. Not sure how the book plays out.

It wasn't in his head, people ignoring his actions and in the end his confession was supposed to illustrate that everyone was so self centered that Patrick Bateman  literally got away with murder.

Actually that's not accurate. If you listen to the commentary from the director and the writer of the film adaptation, all the murders very much did happen, it's just that we see them from Bateman's eyes, which is a distorted image of what really went down, but yes, he did commit all the murders and no, it was not all in his mind.

Post by: galeniko on December 19, 2013, 07:31:06 PM
yeah the murderers did happen.

the authors themselves been clear on that.

the movie leaves you "yes or no"

but the book is too clear, and i think theres 1 or 2 moe homocides in the book, cant remember seeing them in a movie.

the guy is so incredibly vain, haha even i had to laugh at some aprts.

i bet everyone has found some scary paralels in character to the guy.

Yeah he killed a few more in the book.  The one murder in the book where he picks up some stupid whore and ties her up and shoves a greased tube up her twat and inserts a giant rat that he had been keeping in a cage purposely starving it so it would be extra angry.  The rat crawls up into the tube into her twat and eats its way out of her body through her abdomen.  What a contribution to american literature this book was.... ::) ::)
Seriously though, the book was fucking demented.  Shows the level of vanity and depravity that people are capable of.  The diet and exercise shit is cool too because he is so obsessed with it and all the detail he goes into about his breakfast and stuff.  I remember lots of fucking in the book too.  He fucks a bunch of whores and his girlfriend too.  I love all the drug use in it.  Popping benzos all the time, drinking, smashing whores, working out...sounds like a day in the life of galeniko  :)

IMO the book was too blatant, the murders were obvious, and everything was really long-winded. The movie left you questioning everything, like whether he did really those things or not.

" I live in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion."

Absolutely loved the book. Thought the movie was a bit disappointing, since only very little of the humor from the book carries over. I mean I can see how they can't fit 10 page discussions over stupid shit into a 90 minutes movie, but eh.

Read the rest of his oeuvre minus one or two books after American Psycho. Felt like he just wrote the same book over and over again with different characters and settings. His writing is too one-dimensional. Personally, I'd say read American Psycho and skip the rest.

Yeah, the pages discussing a Phil Collins album or his detailed description of his breakfast or his description of his nuts being like "2 large plums"was pretty epic.  I actually love the book, one of my all-time favs.

Try reading "The Republic" by Plato or "Civil Disobedience And Other Essays" by Henry David Thoreau...
If that is not your cake, try the literary classic "The Prince" by Niccolò Machiavelli

Same here, reading a fictional book, is like having a 20 hour conversation about what you might of done last weekend. I much prefer reading text books.

I loved another of Chuck's books too, but forget the name... had storys about some dude jerking off with a glass rod pushed down his dick and it breaks off... and bowling balls bouncing hills smashing people and people thinking they were "smot by god". lol... crazy shit.

Haunted. About an authors' retreat; the book is mostly a collection of their short stories. They were supposed to make a movie of it, too. Not sure what ever became of it. My favorite Palahniuk book is Survivor, about a death cult survivor's rise to superstardom. Another one set for film that got scrapped after 9/11. The story involved a plane hijacking, so bad timing.
