Yes.
All amino acids in the body (except for one or two) come with two identical forms by way of their molecular structure a Dextro (D) and a Levo (L).
The active form of carnitine in the body is the L-carnitine form and the same form of carnitine that those bacteria in the stomach expel after consumption of red meat is the l-carnitine. The l-carnitine is then converted in the liver into TMAO, which then leads to heart disease over a prolonged period of time as postulated by that study posted by Tim Fogarty.
So yes, when they refer to carnitine, they mean both the D-carnitine and L-carnitine. They are one in the same.

holy shit talk about a long forgotten supplement
i took that acetyl l carnitine back in the late 90's it was too expensive to keep taking, i rmember it was some syrupy stuff
