They are difficult to find because most manufacturers won't make them due to a limited number of customers wanting them. I carry only 2 of them but they are only sold on my municipal equipment site, Caliber Gym Supply. Both are wall mounts however.... :'(

However, the best place to get chinning bars if you don't want to spend too much is at a Lowe's or Home Depot....buy some Pipes and some Cap Blocks and you can just built your own

This sounds like a thread that Anabolichalo would make.
-
High steel cost and fabrication cost, plus low demand. Ironmind also seems to want people to buy the whole modular Vulcan system, rather than just stand alone equipment anymore.
You might try this squat and pull up combo -

Made a chin up bar with pipe/chains/eye screws for about $30 from Home Depot. Drilled holes in the rafters and hung in basement.
But yeah - Craigslist. Got a power rack, hex trap bar, and a cambered squat bar off that.

Now, what I did at my grandparents place, I found a tree with two very sturdy limbs, that have thick limbs that cross over it, forming a hold on each side. And there is a little drop off, I have put a solid metal bar into that hold on each side, which holds the bar in place. And it doesn't bend nor break. The limbs are so thick, that they hold hundreds of pounds and not break.
The cost: $0

Hey Vince, is there anything on the market that you're aware of that resembles gymnastic rings, but have a shorter chain/strap? I'm looking for free hanging ring(s) to affix to pull-up a station. I've been doing pull-ups/chins off a bar for years, and it's starting to take it's toll on my elbows. I think the rings would allow my arms/elbows to glide into a more natural position doing pull-ups. Perhaps crossfit may have a similar product. Thanks for any advices.

Pull-ups , burpees , push-ups , sprints , sit ups are all amazing exercises. Get good at pull ups and who gives a shit what yu can do on the pull down machine.

Blast Straps perhaps -
.
https://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?m=PD&cid=295&pid=916 .
They're popular in powerlifting circles, and I've seen some very heavy folks use them for pull ups, etc.... so they're safe.
Rogue also makes steel or wood rings that can be mounted in a rack, but I still like the blast straps -

Be careful we had a getbigger here a few years back tell us how his friend had a pull up bar and while using it the bar collapsed or something and the guy died. Not sure who told us that, anyone else remember that?
-

Yeah, you have to watch the weight capacity and mounting on them. It's dangerous if you kip your pull ups even more because of the violence of the movement, and the position that your body is in. Usually with the kip you come down in more of a head first position, and have less time and body bulk to break your fall. It can get nasty if it's on a hard surface.
-
got a Northern lights dip/chinning station at home...solid and you can do parallel and any other chin/pull up. better with solid kit ;)
-
Dont like pull ups...dont have a need for them. Just my two cents...last time i did them I hurt my bicept....
