Title: What would you like to see at pro shows?
Post by: HowieW on December 21, 2005, 05:24:15 AM
1. The guys in lean, hard shape, with flat belly and ripped abs.

2. Get rid of any props or excessive dance moves and do serious posing routines.

3. I could care less about who does what drugs. I do care about seeing a total package winning the show, NOT merely the biggest freak.

4. Some good old fashioned healthy rivalry between a few guys.
No, not the retarded sounding WWE wrasslin' version, but a little
"heaT" and a healthy passion to win is pretty cool.

5. Height classes! I know, won't happen, but I still would love to see 2 seperate ht classes so we could judge those of equal stature.

6. Stay on stage and do actual poses during the posedown.

7. Stick with bodybuilding and show related topics during the press conference. I could care less about who likes who, etc.

8. I heard the challenge round was history.....Thanks! It was a flop.

9. A little dignity overall. You are pro athletes, act that way. Some already do this.

10. Sportsmanship. We know you won't agree with the judges if you don't win or place well, we get it! However, don't rain on the winners parade.

I agree ,striper's striper pole, and instead of BB coming in audience to pose, striper's coming in aud to give lap dances.

A "10 minutes in the bathroom with a Ms International top 5'er" booth would be pretty bad azz.

Howie,

I'd like to see the look the they had in the late 80's and early 90's.  I liked Berry Demay, Lee Labrada, and yes, Bob Paris' look more than the current crop of GH guts and synthol filled body parts.  The sport has truly ruined itself.  Guys like Ronnie, Gustavo, and Branch are freaky but I would not want to look like either of them.  True, the sauce was around back then but the guys didn't look like a walking chemistry experiment like they do today.

let the audience decide the winner!!

Why not? It would end all the bullshit and accusations of rigging. Or at least split it - let the judges pre-judge, and let the audience mark the actual show. Have a private voting booth where the back of your ticket has the competitors names and an area where you tick and sign, or even better some kind of electronic system. Split the vote 50/50 between judges and audiences.

No more 1980 Mr O or pointless legacies.

1)  They need to find a legitimate way for audience participation.  That’s not to say the entire audience should be allowed to participate, but selected people from the audience (via a ticket stub raffle from tickets sold in advance, for example) should be allowed to QUALIFY to participate in the judging in both the prejudging and the evening show.

In addition to gymrats and roid monkeys there are body building nerds who know how to intelligently break down various muscle groups and offer legitimate evaluations of physiques as opposed to simply voting for a popular personality or someone they “like.”

2)  At the bigger shows, they also need to have an “open round” for people who are not professional bodybuilders.  The fact is not everyone can or wants to devote their life to what should be a recreational activity.  These hobby bodybuilders have family and friends that would come see them compete.  It’s easy enough to scout around for these guys a local gyms.  For a long time the people in charge have focused on what I call the “star system” of body building.  It’s time to move beyond that and expand your market.  The ASC is doing that by integrating other fitness athletes.  Other contests need to do this as well.

3) They need to bring back Master’s competition at all the big shows.  Older guys and their fans have as much money to spend on tickets, supplements, and other paraphernalia as star struck teenagers.

4)  Consider merging your shows with natural shows.  Over the course of a long weekend you can have natural competitors on a Thursday, open and pro shows on friDAY and evening rounds on a Friday or Saturday.... then throw a big party on Sunday where people can mix, mingle, and meet the competitors.  Volume people... volume.

The X Board will gladly serve as the IFBB's voting platform.

The people will get to vote, then Geo and Slippy will do what they want anyway.

For the IFBB, is will be very much as before.  ;D

Very good point, mainstream marketability.

I'd like to see a true Pro-am event.  A pro-am would allow top national caliber amateurs to compete with the pros and if an amateur placed in the top 5 or so he could qualify for his pro card and maybe receive an invite to a top tier pro show like the Arnold Classic or Mr O.

I'd be happy with not seeing guys hike their trunks up their asses to make them thongs. Honestly, it is nasty. I know the glutes are a bodypart and all that blah blah, but face it - we don't walk around with our asses out in general. It is not socially acceptable in 99% of cultures. A giant muscular man in a thong is not the way to increase marketablity. Only the most 'hardcore' of fans, as well as maybe the gay community [no offence to anyone] likes all that.

I would like to see events packed to the gills. More youth in the audiance, and highly proomoted. I like an expo of some sort (IRONMAN PRO) where i can go meet the athletes and score some cool stuff. And nobody wants to listen to f-ing 80's music during prejudging .Contests are about as interesting as your sunday mass.

This is my friend.  He won my novice class at my show.  He had never BB before and couldn't really pose at all but he kicked ass.  Needless to say Melvin couldn't hold his jock, but probably would.  Anyway, I am betting that this guy who has only competed once makes more money from BB and the industry than 95% of every IFBB pro out there.  He knwos how to market himself and makes a ton of money.  He is just 25 or 26 years old, married to a super hottie, has a couple homes, boat, 2006 Navigator and allot more all from using his body.  How come the IFBB pros can't do this.  Plus his body is many better to look at than 95% ofthe IFBB pros out there too.  I think he was 21 or 22 in this pic.
