An attempt to ban US bosses from asking employees to hand over their Facebook login details has been blocked by Congress.
A last minute alteration to the controversial Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) that would have prevented employers demanding that prospective employees disclose social media passwords as a condition of employment was voted down in the house of representatives.
The proposal, put forward by Democrat Ed Perlmutter was defeated by a 224-189 majority, according to the Huffington Post.

Ridiculous!

Why would your employer want your FB password?

Why would your employer want your FB password?
To dig through and read all of your personal shit. This is akin to reading someone's fucking love letters. Why in the blue hell would an employer want to dig through such personal content?
I'm in Canada so no one ever asks for shit like that. I can't believe this has been a battle in America for so long now. Facebook passwords. If someone asked for mine I've give them a knuckle sandwich.

Why does anyone even use FB? Just another reason not to use that shit.
-
A great many companies do already look on facebook and other websites...Alex23 related how he watched the human resources department at his company download everything they could find out about prospective employees...
In point of fact the clause that would prevent employers from getting the passwords was blocked...It doesn't mandate that employers be forced to get the data.

I've never been able to use Facebook.
Maybe it's because I lack the "cool" factor or maybe it's because I've seen some amazing IT guys hack user passwords in less than 30 minutes that makes me weary of ever joining, either way, I can't do it.
What I have noticed is that a good number of people in my workplace have approached me in the hopes of getting to know more of me, due to the fact that unlike the vast majority of my colleagues, I stay off of Facebook.
Give them a reason to wonder and the sheep will flock towards you. Give them an open door to every single intricacy about your life and you lose your ability to be unique and will instead simply blend in.
My brother and his wife swear by it and say they've "reconnected" with so many old friends and acquaintances. I just don't find it appealing. Those past acquaintances, who I no longer speak with, are where they are (far from me) for a reason, why bring them back into the picture to only drag back with them the memories that made them deplorable to begin with?

I think they already do that. I get that but the thought of some employers reading through your personal shit with a friend so they can determine if they have some personal issue with you that's kinda fucked up. "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to fire you. 3 of your family members are in unions... or whatever,... " maybe fired because you supported gay marriage, opposed the war in Iraq, are pro-life etc... That opens it up for all this shit.
-
Yep. From what I know, things are not closed, removed and/or deleted. They are "deactivated". All items are retained. If you post anything, including an image, it will be kept - no matter if you specifically want it to be deleted.
I'd appreciate it if someone could offer a legitimate reason for that.
-
LOL the end of facebook
time to hit google whatever the fuck circles
-
The executives at Facebook are some of the strongest actors against anonymity on the internet--so when you choose to have a Facebook account, you are helping them toward realizing that goal. (needless to say, they want to make it impossible for anyone to be anonymous on the internet, whether or not the subject is foolish enough to have a facebook account)

I feel the same about any invasion of privacy by an employer. Someone's actions or opinions are none of their business once someone is off the clock.
-
If this is real, surely it must be impossible in a so-called 'democratic' society?
Or else they're exactly the same or worse than the Stasi.

Man, there's no such thing as a "democratic society", it's all a farce. It's the same old empirical system with the illusion of freedom to facilitate commerce. I predict modern humanist, socialist, liberal ideologies will die hard, never to return again.

"I decline to answer on the advice of council."
"I'll show you mine if you show me yours, Sugartits."
"Ok but give me a day to take off all the Nazi stuff."
"Wait. You mean mine or the one I made about you?"
-
If a potential employer asked for my password, I would lose it.
On principal, I don't care how good the job is, I would not take this humiliation and would tell them what I think of them.
-
"If you wanted to see me oiled up all you had to do was ask."

Cant you just say you dont have a FB? Or make a FB page, and just dont use your real name or pics. :-\
-
If they start enforcing this it will kill Facebook. This is a really dumb move. Just when you think they can't be more retarded they go and surprise you!
I predict many people will just close their FB account.
What if the employer signs on with your username and password and starts posting bullshit messages or threats against people. The potential for abuse is limitless. I can't believe the whores allowed this to pass.
-
"If you wanted to see me oiled up all you had to do was ask."
Sure thing sweetie, here's the password to my gaysingles profile too. :-*
-
Never understood why people can't communicate directly.
A concept like Facebook should be an embarrassment.
-
CISPA now your government can get your emails, sms, call records and gps location...without a warranty.
Do you think the FB thing is bad? lol.
BTW: it does not matter if you delete or not give your password to your boss, they still get your stuff. FB keeps your history. ;D
In case you didn't know... the guy that create CISPA force this bill so much...wanna know why? Well!! his wife signed a 10 billion contract with the government... yep she owns the cyber security company.
