If you are buying any $2000 sport bike I would pay close attention to year, condition, tires, miles and who the current owner is frankly.

If the Ninja 500 is less than 10 years old and in good shape might be fine. Another good cheap bike in that cc range is a Suzuki Bandit 600.

Bandits cool but had a bad rep due to engine causing a lot of nasty wrecks to born again bikers not used to it torque when it was first released if I recall correctly. If u r a first time biker do u have to have a sport bike?  Pick yourself up a used v star or cther type of cruiser. A lot of those can be gotten at your price of 2 grand.

I got two Yamaha's a 550 and a 1100 been riding since 6 yrs old. My dad gave them to me before died. I would sell the 550 they are classic bikes not crotch rockets.

Oh. If u have ever ridden a bicycle u can ride a motorcycle. The clutch and shifting r the biggest learning curb for newbies. Pick up Keith codes riding book. Can't remember wut its called but its a classic and still very good. Tell your relatives to keep us posted on the funeral arrangements.  ;D

Ever rode an old Kaw GPZ 750 Turbo? That's a sneaky one when the turbo is spooled up.

The Bandit would be a bike that wouldn't lose value and would be harder to outgrow though. Not like it's a V-max....if you can't ride a 600 Bandit you shouldn't be on a sport bike at all....IMO.

He could buy a used 250 Ninja or CBR250R and stay close to his price range.

That way when he crashes he will only be going 40 mph.....and may survive.   ::)

Well, I started on an '82 GS1100E so I used my will to live to learn how to tame the thing, haha.

And yeah he could buy an older bike like a KZ450 or GS550 or Seca but besides being old they are heavy, handle poorly and have bad brakes compared to a Ninja or CBR 250...and fixing a bike while you learn to ride sucks.

There's always the Suzuki 650 Savage and there are a couple recent 250 cruisers like the Virago and GZ250.

How big of a guy are you? The 250 class bikes are smaller frames and less "badass" looking, haha.

Cant go wrong with a late 90s honda cbr 600. Reliable bikes. Pretty cheap to own to but uberman would afford to maintain them even if they are cheap

Ah yes, the motorcycle. Always to be recommended to young males with poor impulse control. Make sure your health insurance is topped up, Evel.

I rode a lot in my early 20's. Riding a bike is dangerous in it self and I wouldn't want to make the odds higher by buying a used bike. Watch out for idiots in cars making left hand turns in front of you.

Save up and get something like a new Honda CBR 250. It should give you zero mechanical problems. The brakes and handling is really good for the price. It should top out at around 100MPH and should accelerate better than the average car. At 100 mph without protective clothes they will sponge you off the highway the same way they will sponge you off the road riding 100 mph on a 1000cc bike. You can pick it up for little over $4000. If you want more speed Kawasaki makes a 300 sport bike.

you can get one of these for $99 a mth + tax.  it's safer (you have something around you other than the pavement).

LOL. I started with the same mini-bikes riding on a dirt road around 6 years old. I remember crashing in a neighbors yard, my first crash I have had a few, if ride a bike you will crash one day. My dad ran threw a barbed wire fence once he had a scar for life.

One of my first bikes when I was a teen was a 84 Honda Interceptor 500. Cost me about 1500 and was about 10 years old.

You can probably get something about 10 years old in the 600 - 750cc range.

Just make sure you get a mechanic or someone good with bikes to take a look at it.

Make note if it will need tires or an oil change or whatever... You'll have to fork over for the rubber and oil. (No Homo)

scooters are nice too, also 'compact' ones in the 100-125cc range. I dont know how they are called in english but they are great on and off road. Good for the city too. I had a honda astrea 100cc of this type.

2 grand? maybe for a project dirtbike. Remember you need a helmet and body armor. Don't cheap out on that stuff. Plus you need to get insurance, registration, inspection.  A 2,000$ bike will probably need some work. Just a set of tires mounted is a few hundred.
Keep saving.
