I just got a 50cc chainsaw. Gonna go cut down a bunch of trees on my property next week. I am a bit intimidated by the really thick trees but I will dominate that shit.
I can't wait to start cutting through shit. ;D

you need a pulley ratchet and a chain , to ensure it will fall in desired direction

not if you know how to drop a tree

What if I just notch it really well and create a good hinge for it to fall with?
I've read a LOT of things about how to cut down trees and they never mentioned pulleys and chains ???

Exactly. My buddy works as a tree cutter and he said I just gotta let the notch and hinge do all the work.
I'm gonna start on the small trees and work my way up to the old growth beasts.

That will work great. I love my chainsaw. Just the sound of it raises my test levels. ;D

You are correct. Be careful regardless

use a ratchet device to pull leverage from another tree then do your thing
you cant cut a tree down safley without this device

so youre saying you can eye out a trees weight and know exactly wich side is prone to fall first?
just because your notching out a tree a certain way doesnt mean shit bro

I got safety chaps, gloves, and helmet.
I am very intimidated by this machine, I am taking it seriously.

Just stop, you are wrong. Cut down a ton of trees, have seen my father cut down a ton of trees, have seen tree services cut down a ton of trees. 90% of the time those devices werent used
-
that tree might fall in any direction regardless where you notch it out son

From what I researched, you can factor all that stuff in, lean on the tree and weight in the canopy just needs to be considered, but it doesn't totally control its fall.
But I will look into what you are talking about.

What the fuck am I supposed to do? Climb up a 100 foot tree to put ratchets and chains up?
How do you install these things? I'm cutting some TALL douglas firs, these aren't some little Apple trees.

Thanks man.
I have tons of space to drop the trees. Shouldn't be too hard.

A lad i know who does it for a living cuts down some really large trees using just a chainsaw and wedges. Just keeps cutting deeper and adding wedges so it falls away. If you have to chop them up start with the tops and work down as the nearer the roots the higher the soil content which will blunt your chain faster.
-
I use one sometimes.

Good info. Careful not to bury the blade into the dirt, could be unseen rocks you will hit or even cause a ricochet. Good way is to do several cut half way through the tree then cut all the way through in one spot. Flip the log over and finish the cuts with no risk of blunting your saw

x2
but will he listen?
I've cut down many trees and the notch thing is not fail safe what so ever. I never take a chance, except once working with this guy who said he knew what he was doing, instead of falling in direction of the notch the tree fell right next to somebodies RV, of cause he said " it fell just like I wanted it too ", I didn't bother to say anything.

Listen to the falcon, son.

Yeah because playing landlord to Mexicans makes Johnnay an expert on dropping trees. God knows his diet info is solid, just look at his physique. ::)

Always notch it. A good-sized notch is usually enough to control fall direction. If the tree is near anything like a house, garage, power lines, etc., a ratchet is a good idea for added precaution. Make sure there are no twists in the strap, as this will weaken its strength.
-
Chainsaw's sometimes will kickback on you meaning if they hit knot or something in the wood watch out.

Great tool to treat the American flag ;D
-
Make a face cut halfway through the tree in the direction you want it to fall, and then a back cut.

First time on my life I am 100% agree with the Falcon. I never see this coming, but in this matter he obviously has some experience. I have seen how complete amateurs use their non existent skills to cut the trees, and there is no way in hell that could be going like it goes in the movies. That's why amateurs use a. hired pro or b. chains and pulleys. If you have a lot of trees, and you don't want cut them all but spare some, you should know excatly how they fall. Pro can see that, but you can't even imagine how many variations there is between that and view in your eyes. You don't want in to situation, where you have cutting the tree and it doesn't fall, because of other trees, or it doesn't fall all the way but hangs by branches. To prevent all this shit, amateurs use chains and pulleys. It can save your life. Furthermore, if you are first time using chain saw, there is many things which could go wrong. That's why wise guy use the precautionarys and don't loose a limb. You have to understand that most of these wankers want you to fail, so they can see in the news how your guts hangs in the trees.
