Title: Should prison lifers have the right to suicide?
Post by: Skip8282 on April 28, 2013, 08:35:23 AM
19 years old.  Seems, but I don't know, that his older brother may have pushed him into it.

He'll spend the rest of his life in a solitary metal box - justifiably so.

If he would rather die (as I couldn't imagine it), should he be allowed to off himself?

I don't have much problem with it.

Let him kill himself if he wants.

In a free country it seems you would have the right to suicide? Life in a metal box seems like torture.

Free people can eat themselves to death.

Why not?

I have a real problem with the 40k a year, or however much it comes to with free healthcare, etc... for inmates.

This is a huge drain on the system.

Maybe it's time to quit locking people up for decades because of non violent drug related crimes.  ::)

That, and increase capital punishment.

If they were a murderer or child rapist...I would have some respect for someone who did.....However, its not difficult for an inmate to tie a bedsheet around their necks and jump from the ceiling like Kriss Kross

it cannot be that hard to kill oneself.

i bet one could bite the veins in their wrists enough to pump out enough blood to bleed out overnight.  Would be painful as shit, but I"m not sure it wouldn't work?

That's actually a really good idea.  The victims will have a sense of justice, I would think.

Some do for sure, but for the most part, prisons work to stop it.  And they'll put people on special watch if they think there is any indication of it.

Oh the bomber.

He should suffer as much as possible.

Maybe if someone killed someone in a rage but a planned attack on ordinary people?
I think he should be kept alive and every year of the crime they should surgely remove a part of his body. No suicide option here he should suffer as long as possible.

I worked as a corrections officer so I know we are there to stop them....however it doesn't always work out that way.  I saw two people commit suicide when I worked and they did it by climbing on their bunks and jumping down head first to break their necks.......very messy but effective

It's not hard to cop a death wish in prison.

I agree.  He shouldn't get immediate release from his mental torture that solitary will bring about.  But he should have the option later to check out if he wants.

Yes they should.  I think all psychologically healthy people should have the right to choose when they die. Plus, it cuts costs.

That would be great - though they should get prior training on how to do it most efficiently.
