You thinking of Wade Boggs? If not for the war, Williams may have hit about 650 hrs.

Ted Williams was the greatest hitter and greatest fly fisherman is the history of this fucking planet.
Period.
-
What a lot of people don't realize is that he not only hit a home run in his last at-bat, but he hit a home run in his first at-bat after coming back from the war (which he actually fought in as a pilot and actually survived being shot down in) :o Say what you like, but Ted was the ultimate alpha male and REAL LIFE living legend. What a life that even people like Arnold have to bow down too...

When I was a kid in the 80's Ted and a friend used to fish on a boat in the Waltham, MASS. clean water reservoir that was up the street from me. Funny thing is, it was illegal BUT only he could do it. The man could do ANYTHING he wanted...he was seriously above the law. A National Treasure, for REAL!

Another interesting fact about the total AWESOMENESS of this man. The year Ted Williams hit .406 in 1941 by going 6 for 8 in a double header he didn't even have to play in (he was batting .400 to start the day), they didn't have the sacrifice fly rule yet, that rule came into effect a year later in 1942. If that rule was in effect in 41, he would've actually batted .412 for the year :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
Respect the man bitches!!!

I'm not a baseball stat guy, but was he really better than Ruth, Cobb, Wagner, Musial and Bonds?

The thing with Ruth, Cobb and Gehrig is that they never played with black players. And even the Babe himself said their were players even better than him like Josh Gibson (who hit more than 800 homers) and of course, Satgiel Page who could have been the greatest pitcher in the history of the game...
I give it too Williams! He was too much man for the others!!

Greatest hitter of all time, TW. Pitching was a complete joke back in the formative years of the MLB when it wasn't unheard of for starters to pitch 400+ innings and starting 50 games a year. No way those guys were throwing hard game in and game out. TW (1939) is one of two players in the top 20 all-time batting averages (Tony Guinn (1982) is the other) to debut before 1923. The average debut year of the top 20 other than TW and Tony is 1909. If TW played then he'd probably have hit .500
Ted was also quite slow down the first base line. If he'd had some speed his BA would have been even higher.

Three losers Ted was ok but struggled to hit a home run.

QFT. Read his book, The Science of Hitting, cover to cover many times over in high school.

When you look at his career stats you have to remember that he missed the better part of five years with military service, most of them in the prime of his career. If he maintained his career averages for HR and RBI per game in those years, he would have likely been the career leader in RBI and hit more homers than anyone except Bonds, Aaron, and Babe Ruth.
He's unquestionably the greatest contact hitter ever as I outlined in my previous post.

I'm not disagreeing, just don't know enough about him to pass judgment.

I've heard this argument so many times, but I'm not convinced it would have had significant impact on their entire body of work.
Williams is one of the best ball players ever, for sure, and is definitely in the top 5, and definitely deserves to have his name mixed in with the greatest of the great like Ruth and Bonds. I personally don't like trying to single out player, since they're all so incredible, but I have to give #1 to Ruth. Compare not his numbers in their totality, but in the deviation from the league norms at the time. It's cartoonish how much better he was then everyone else.
