Title: Is it cheaper to leave my lights on?
Post by: Bad Boy Dazza on May 11, 2013, 04:28:24 AM
I heard that it costs more to turn your lights on and off than to just leave them on.  Obviously not all day and night but for like a few hours.

That is wrong...that is the same as leaving your sink on to reduce water bills

I work for an electric utility so you can trust me on this one.

Make sure to unplug appliances you are not using as they suck power anyway..

Thats stupid, just cover it with a cloth, that way it goes out, it only comes back on when you remove the cloth.

Don't listen to experts, environmentalist, scientists or politicians, they will make you fearfull and have panic attacks over petty things. Just have the lights the way you feel like and feel comfortable with. That  you feel safe and content with, a nice safe feeling is what you want to shoot for. Words to remember "good" and "happy" and "secure".

Maybe someone like Sync Pulse can speak on this, but i don't think it's a good idea to have a large appliance like that plugged into an extension cord.

No man. Big appliance draw a high amp load. Using extension cords that are not the proper gauge size can lead to fire via overheating, catching on fire etc...

Fridge should come with it's own cord which is plunged straight into the wall outlet.
is this relevant in 220v network
