i'll go with the tull
-
Both incredible, but I'm more of a life long Yes fan...
-
ive been into YES since 81-82, awesome band.
-
Well, if you're into flute rock there's no better band than Jethro Tull.
-
Not a huge fan of either, but YES gets the nod from me. The gay ass flute solos just dont do it for me.

Ha ha....i just said the same thing. Some Gollum looking fool prancing around playing a flute never went over with me....LOL

Ditto. Prog rock was never a genre I got into - too much self-indulgency, tricky time signature changes, etc. I do have Fragile, tho, in my collection, somewhere. Must be 15+ years since I last played it.

Both great unique bands. Jon Anderson s vocals get on my nerves after awhile though. My vote goes for Genesis with Peter Gabriel. After Gabriel left they were just another pop group albeit a successful one
-
Jethro Tulls best song, Acres Wild

and the most under-rated prog rock band has gotta be these dudes

Wouldnt call Pink.Floyd progressive rock any more than i would call Radiohead prog rock....just great rock bands that push the sonic envelope. But "they" classify them prog rock because they didnt sound like Zeppelin.
King Crimson is definitley "prog rock" ....which is actually jazz/rock fusion which was pioneered by Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer on "blow by blow" and "wired". I would not say they are underrated. Maybe by Joe Neckbone who thinks "Freebird" is awesome, but not by people who know music. Robert Fripp is retarded.
-
Jethro waxes Yes. Yes = No. Falcon and 40lb DB's approved.

The only good thing about Tull is that Cyrus P. Falconer likes them.

Agree. Would put them in the psychedelic rock/rock camp.

Dont recall who did the artwork for ELP. Good stuff though. Rodger Dean did a lot of stuff for Yes and others and was quite good

Nothing better than Pink Floyd! I did it for years in my late teens up to about 21!
-
I'm going to have to say Tull although they push the envelope out of Progressive Rock.
Nobody compares to Rush though. NOBODY.

Yes. To this day that is still the genre they are labelled under. Although many disagree and in my opinion their style/genre has changed/progressed over time.

do you really know what progressive rock is, Tull?

from wiki... "Jethro Tull are a British progressive rock group formed in Luton, Bedfordshire, in December 1967"
-
Prog Rock = musical virtuosity, non-standard time signatures, synthesizers, tripped out stage shows, lyrics that go beyond sex, drugs & rock 'n roll, album side long storytelling. The more pure the prog the rock is, the less chicks dig it. Prog Rock is definitely NOT sexy. Play the ladies some Stones if they want sexy.
All late Yes, 70's Rush (Hemispheres, 2112, Farewell to Kings), ELP, King Crimson, Marillion, even some Kansas fits the bill.
Tull? Not so much pure progressive, more like Hobbit Rock. Good stuff, but I wouldn't consider them Prog Rock like the groups above.
-
i'll go with the tull
tull by far , i pretty much like all music but tull's body of work far outshines yes's. kansas would also be in the prog mix.
