Welfare sponges should be next!!
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Workers who lose their jobs would have to clear a drug screening to qualify for unemployment compensation under a proposal approved by the Texas Legislature.
Under current law, employers take out insurance policies to help laid-off workers survive on weekly payments of $62 to $440. Those who are fired for cause, including failing an employer-sponsored drug test, do not qualify.
The changes approved Saturday would require laid-off workers to fill out state questionnaires. Answers considered suspicious would lead to drug tests. Workers who fail would lose their benefits.
Republican Sen. Tommy Williams said the program will help maintain a competent workforce.
Democrats have blocked a separate measure that would have required drug testing for welfare recipients. But the bill targeting unemployed workers will now go to the governor.

Can't really see why anyone would be opposed to this. I don't mind some of my tax dollars going to help fellow Americans in need, but I don't want them using them to support a habit.

The only habit you're supporting is the drug testing companies that got these politicians in their back pocket. A person who gets laid off from their job through no fault of their own shouldn't give to jump through a bunch of extra hoops to feed their family.....and other states that did the "welfare" thing spend far more money than it actually benefited

Whatever method costs less at the end of the day for tax payers

Toothless feel good law... Even if they test positive, they can appeal the decision and they will still get money for children. And who is going to answer questions in a way that will be suspicious??

as long as the companies being used to do the tests aren't owned by the wife of the governor ordering the tests... ahem, Florida lol... I love the idea!

I want legislators to receive continual random tests, and have the results posted online and in the newspaper, etc.

A lot of the people that support this, support ideas that put Americans out of work in the first place. That's the real story.
