My personal razor is just like the one above, find an old style screw open/close one, and buy blades in bulk.
I also use a straight razor for more formal beard trimming, but it takes a decent bit longer.

I use a beard trimmer on lowest setting so just leaves a shadow. No skin irritation either

I use a disposable razor. I buy a multiple-pack at Costco.

I just use regular hair clipper with no attachments on it. Leaves just enough fuzz for the 5 o'clock the ladies love.

Uhm... what? I think you're using it wrong. How can a device which cuts the hair (which have no nerves and feel no pain) be painful? Are you sure you weren't tricked into buying some sort of DeWalt orbital sander or some kind of fucking machine?

Why anyone would want to use those multi-blade behemoths is beyond me... I use a cutthroat razor. It takes a bit of time to get good with the blade, but the shave you get is far superior to what you'll get from a Mach 3 or a Warp 7 or whatever other speed-related moniker they use these days to market razors.

Yep. 5 pack lasts me about a year. I shave straight out of the shower with moisturizing lotion instead of foam/gel.
Never dry it tho. Just throw it down next to the sink. Pretty sure the blades would be chromium steel.

I use a Bell and Howell electric razor if I have a beard and use an Aqua to get the rest. Saves a ton of wear on blades

Yeah... same here. I usually grow out my beard for a few days, then shave. One blade would last me two shaves if I was lucky since half my beard ended up between the blades no matter how diligently I rinsed and tapped the blade head. And once hair got in between, it felt like I was "shaving" with a dull and rusty steak knife from an IHOP. Not a good feeling.
How do you sharpen it?
I've only had to strop the blade, which is fairly easy to do but takes a bit of practice to get right. Stropping helps keep the edge of the blade smooth and sharp and conditions it.
I know that occasionally a razor might need to be sharpened/honed but I haven't had to do that yet. I think that I would much more inclined to send it to a professional, instead of trying to use a do it myself.

Sharpening a straight razor isn't that big a deal. If you can sharpen a kitchen knife, you can sharpen a straight razor.
In general, if you can get away with stropping dry or with compound, use that till you can't. If you have to hone, the preference now is toward water stones, but a good translucent Arkansas will work well too. The important thing to remember to keep the angle consistant. It's actually easier with a razor than a knife, because they are made to sit flat against the stone, and the spine acts as an auto correcting angle guide.
Another important thing is not to let the edge chip or crack, this is an awful thing to have happen, as you could loose the blade. It usually happens when a razor is set down roughly or falls, but I have seen it happen from using old or dirty hones.
If you're just starting out, something like 5/8 or 6/8 with a regular hollow grind is a good starting point for most people. But if you have a wiry or heavy beard, you might track down a flat ground "wedge" type razor.
Tip style is a personal thing, but I like the square tip better than the round safety tip, as I find it better for detail work. They can be a bit nicky around ears, if you're not careful.
