Title: What would changed your Vitamin C tolerance?
Post by: Roger Bacon on June 04, 2013, 03:39:36 PM
Vitamin C always use to give me diarrhea if I took too much.  I'm currently sick with some kind of cold, and I probably had like 6000 mg of Vitamin C yesterday (6 of those Emergen-C packs).  It's not doing anything to me at all?

I've been doing a ton of Cardio for the last year (for no good reason), and am in really good shape.  That's the only thing that's changed that I know of compared to last year.

???

Or could it be that these Emergen-C packs suck? ???

Aren't you supposed to take those high-dose vC things before you get sick?

Yes, but I was under the impression Vitamin C helped fight this shit too? ???

I started hitting each body part twice a week, and I think that's what did it.  I haven't been sick in a year and a half.

you realize your body can only orally absorb so much vit c, right? the rest just gets pissed out.

i think injecting bypasses this mechanism but i have yet to find any injectable vit c

Linus Pauling did a lot of work with vitamin C. A friend with a family connection to him had a lot of good things to say about vit C and cancer prevention.  Maybe check out some of his work.

When mega dosing vit- c a great way to go is lypo-spheric pacs. 98% bio-available and can raise serum levels twice as high as previously thought possible. Vitamin C is undervalued in our current diets and this should change.

His research into virus protection using vitamin C could never be peer reviewed for accuracy. In other words no one ever got the results he did. Vitamin C is of course necessary for health but it doesn't do any kind of magic in cold prevention. Take to much when you got a cold and you can get dehydrated from diarrhea and get a painful stomach ache.

I believe Pauling took about 10 grams a day in crystal form (crystals mixed with water or juice).

Pauling used to get interviewed and written up a lot in the old health food magazines (in the 1980's) that were sent out for free by the health food stores.

Two grams a day really isn't anything special.  Boyer Coe used to take about 8 grams a day.

Vince Gironda was a guru.

Pauling was a Nobel prize winning chemist, one of the most influential bio-chemists in history.

Look, if you want to take 250 mgs. of C with your Flintstones, then by all means...

Supposedly there were studies saying that just 500mg of vitamin C a day for years can cause oxidative damage (DNA mutations)...I read where it is supposedly is like "rust" in the body...I take it all with a grain of salt though. I do know that too much vitamin B6 will cause nerve damage and have heard of people getting tingling in the hands and feet from taking grams of vitamin C.

^^
Some people are really only cool with once a week body part stimulation, ESPECIALLY if you hit them hard...
Get enough sleep, and wash your hands more often... a LOT of people get sick from rubbing their eyes or picking their nose (two great viral transmission areas) after they've touched something infected/shaking hands with someone.
