Today I rode my bicycle for 50 miles with an average speed of 18 miles per hour (80 km at 29 km/h avg. speed).
How many of you can do this? :)
-
How's your nutsack holding up?
-
What kind of bike?

I get tired driving my car 50 miles...
-
What kind of bike?

I did a whole 20 minutes on the stepper this morning. That's my cardio for the year.

Sure, even though I'm in awful shape atm. Except for this. I don't get hardcore cyclists. "You get used to it." Fine, you do that. I'll be over here on the rower without uncomfortable something jammed up my crotch.
-
Try jumping rope all out for 2 hours straight.

my crotch is fine. I'm used to this kind of cycling.

Definitely something I've been taking a lot more pride in lately. Weekends I run in the morning, bike ride in the afternoon, and train after. Running around 5-6k. Sprinting 1 min and walking 1. Biking I guess maybe 20 miles (weather permitting), then weight training an hour. Weight train and cardio is a permanent fixture in my 7 day routine. If there is any advice I would give to someone starting it is to focus just as much on cardio as bodybuilding. I feel like I'm 20

Thats a solid ride. ;) Im a competitive cyclist of 20 years, so my body is like a t-rex now. lol
-
I spent several years of my life only weight training and this gives me little surplus energy in my daily life. I love cycling and it just gives you a huge surplus of energy both mentally and physically. I am sure CSWOL feels the same way. ;)

cardio just seems to take so much out of me..I just can't sustain it more than a few weeks tops.....I feel drained and dread going to the gym after a while..any thoughts?..tips?

It's mental. My advice, just don't believe that cardio takes out of you but rather that gives you more. Also timing it, see if mornings work better or night. Maybe try it at night if it makes you lethargic.
-
I ran a little under 12 miles this morning. I normally do about 40 miles a week.

Thanks dude....thats another way of looking at it

I ride 5 - 10km everyday on my bike
I am confident to be able to that

That's what my pops said when I biked with him in Maine a few years ago. Fucking torture machines! Aghhh! ;D

I start nodding off in chairs at home when I don't drink enough water through the course of the day, cardio or just a plain work day. Maybe just hydration? I notice a big difference in energy when I make a point of chugging every couple hours.
-
Yes most people don't drink enough water.

run after work. When you get home after running, cycling etc. take a nap for 25 minutes. Also a cup of coffee and a shower and your energy level is ok.
-
run...bike...walk....wha t ever you like....just do it and move.

Last time tried cycling the thing at the back that changes gears broke a few miles from home. Bike went away on the scrap wagon the next morning.

when I see women banging out sprints on the treadmill next to me, all that "I'm drained" nonsense flies out the window. If they can do it for 30 minutes like crazed person, then you damn sure can.

You ride 3.1 miles to 6.2 miles a day on your bike and your confident you can ride 50 miles at 18MPH?

As I recall Sophus is a gimmick. And one of the more lame ones.
I am by no means a hardcore bicyclist, but I've trained pretty consistent for some time in order to ride at the quoted speed. Also, the mentioned 50 miles had a lot of hills.
-
That is impressive. I rode for about 60 miles or so riding about 18MPH much of the way but I'm sure the average wasn't 18MPH. I once rode for 500 miles in 5 days. Now if I ride I ride for about 15 miles on a hybrid going as slow as hell.

what's your bench?

pathetic. Don't strength train much at the moment.

The bench is the most useless measure of strength and power.

no worries then, as you got all those blue-eyed blondie danish hotties round ya 8)

not so sure about that, but it most certainly is the upper body squat

If you are really riding that Trek what you are doing isn't extremely difficult. Those things are like the wind.

I believe you and reading into your Posts you are fit.

I didn't say what I do is difficult. Since this is a muscle / bodybuilding forum, I was just curious as to the cardio level of people here.

Thats cool. I put in about 100 miles a week myself.....great, great exercise.

The Gazelle doesn't count. ::)
-
nice. Do you have a racing bicycle or just a normal city bike?
I have a dedicated road bike, 26 cm tires. I started on a hybrid, got sick of guys on road bikes flying by me like i wasn't moving. I'm still not "fast", weighing 235 has a LOT to do with that.... But my range and speed have doubled since i got into it.
-
No it's not. Elite level cyclists are most definitely not "the look of true functional power." Most look like concentration camp victims with, in a few cases, better looking quads than the average person. IFBB pros look like garbage - that's true, but pro cyclists mostly look like jockeys with golf tans. Most couldn't do a single chin-up if their life depended on it.
Sprinters, decathletes, higher weight class wrestlers, etc. - those athletes represent the look of true functional power.
It depends on the racing discipline. Some avenues of racing have some mass monsters.

A ten minute walk a few times a week. Just measuered my heart rate: 55 bpm. I varies from high 40s to low 60s over the course of the day. Is resting heart rate an indicator of cardo health?
A 10 minute walk? May I ask your A/S/L?

Today the elevator in my apartment complex wasn't working and I had to go up three flights of stairs. I managed to get up without stopping, but just barely. I collapsed in bed for a good 10 minutes immediately afterwards. So... I guess my cardio shape is average?

How much would it have cost, for a prime Falcon to paint a house naked?

Is 18mph considered fast?
-
Is 18mph considered fast?
Yes it is. You would have to be in very good shape to do this for 50 miles. For a guy that races bikes it isn't.
-
Only on the track. The guy in the pic is a road racer. The road racers are all weaklings.
Criterium racing has some monsters too.
-
Road racers in biking are the distance runners of the bike world. The sprinters that go around the oval are the ones with those monster thighs.

"sprinting one minute and walking 1"
::)
a) you cant sprint for a minute
b) even if you could, no way in HELL you would be ready again to go in 1 minute, especially lap after lap

When I ride alone or in my club we only ride on roads with little or no cars. There are a lot of such roads in my area.

Or a package deal, Johnny Falcon paints naked, Tbombz hops around in a Bunny-Suit and Mayor of Bodybuilding marches around the house shouting "GIMME 10 NAMES!!"
-
Over the weekend I picked up this beauty... Cannondale SuperSix Ultegra.
I am doing 30 miles per ride right now, I try to keep my cadence between 80-100. On the weekends I want to up it to 50 miles.

Yes, a blatantly nonsensical claim by xchicken. I can't help but wonder how deep the delusion runs in some people here.
