Did it June 1st at Gunstock mountain in NH.  It was very challenging.

But I did the obstacle you posted easily by myself.  Almost ran all the way up the half pipe.

You think someone like John Wayne or Clint Eastwood would spend their free time doing this kind of gay shit? ???

This is for guys that want to pretend they are in the military. Seriously how do you get in your car after that? I know they provide a hose at the end but damn I'm not getting my new car crapped up for pretend military pt. I'll stick to 5K, 10K's and maybe an urbanathlons race minus the mud.

This. I would never get into my Corvette looking like that. I like to drive around with my 19" arm on display.

Didn't pretend we were in the military.  Just did it because it was a challenge and fun.

I brought a bodybuilder friend of mine w me to my last Spartan race  - he thought lifting was enough and because he "looked" in shape was enough.

Needless to say - he left w torn bicep and finished an hour behind me and barely crawled over the finish line.

So, what did that teach him?

Nice friend you are to bring a guy you knew would get owned by the specific conditioning needed for an event like that.

I told him how to train months in advance and he wanted to be a typical BB'er type "Yo Bro - I got this"  "I go to war in the gym - that's enough"

I think a lot of people make this mistake.  The mountain was littered with people who were cooked, but looked like they were in great shape.

There's a difference between doing 3 sets of pullups in the gym compared to  doing a set of pullups after a 1/4 mile sprint, burpees, etc....

I laugh so hard at some of the people on this site thinking this stuff is easy.   Lifting weights alone is like a vacation compared to a lot of this.

I learned a lot from it.   I've never encountered stuff like it did at the end - muscle, wind, endurance were all good.   Tendons, bones?, not so good.   Could not walk downhill forward after the 11th.  It was f'd up.

Sign up for GoRuck - its supposed to be even harder and way more grueling.  12 hours too

You're right. If you enjoy the challenge of these type races who am I to criticize. Just count me out of it. No mud races for me.

I always say that lifting without conditioning is useless strength. I'd sacrifice 50lb off my best single rep to have a lot of gas in the tank.

All good.  Your question about the mud/car is completely valid.   We brought a change of clothes and a garbage bag for the ones we wore.  Tough Mudder also has a drop off if you want to donate your shoes.   They partner with organizations like Kids of the Kerb so people who need them can get them.

Agreed.  I had shoulder surgery in Feb, so I was forced into cardio only workouts to get ready for this, and previously had done very little.  I'll never sacrifice conditioning again.

I got into incredible cardio shape when I ripped my bicep completely off. It rolled up toward my shoulder. During my recovery after the operation the treadmill was my friend. I really got into sick cardio shape. When I could finally lift again I stupidly only paid the typical bodybuilder attention toward cardio. Maybe two sessions a week. Now in my mid 50's I think I got my head on straight and I will never put cardio in the corner again.

Just a side note related to this. My town put a 5 K on a couple of years ago. The big gym in town told two trainers on their staff it would be good for the gym for them to run it. Two buff guys wearing the gym's clothing. I think every single chubby soccer mom came in ahead of them. They really looked sick when they crossed the finish. I bet they could have been knocked over by a strong wind gust from exhaustion.  A couple of weeks later what do I see? The two guys doing road work. I guess it opened their eyes. Anyone who has ever boxed or did something like submission wrestling knows the value of conditioning.

Sounds like a sex act on a particularly tight butthole on a less than enthusiastic woman.

28-Year-Old Dies During Tough Mudder Event; Was Company Negligent?

A Maryland family is considering a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Tough Mudder, a long-distance, military-style obstacle course that has become hugely popular. Twenty-eight-year-old Avi Sengupta died during a Tough Mudder event.

Sengupta was running the race with five friends from work. When they reached an obstacle that required them to leap from a platform into a pool of muddy water, Sengupta never surfaced.

Eight minutes after he entered the water, he was found. Desperate attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was declared brain dead.

It is theorized that a woman who jumped in after Sengupta may have hit him. An autopsy revealed a contusion that could indicate that someone landed on him.

Elliott Woods, a contributor for Outside Magazine who has been following case, told Martha MacCallum that while there’s no doubt that there is an inherent risk in performing such obstacles, the contention here is that the organization didn’t live up to their duty to take care of their paying clients.

In video of the incident, Sengupta’s friends can be heard pleading with a lifeguard to go into the water to look for him. Woods reveals that Sengupta’s friends alerted the lifeguards on shore within 30 seconds of him going in the water. It was two minutes before lifeguards ordered a rescue diver in, and another two minutes before the diver actually got into the water. “By that time, there was about one minute left before major brain damage was going to set in from the drowning,” Woods said.

Lis Wiehl weighed in on the legal aspects of the case saying that a “company cannot avoid liability with gross negligence.” She said the key to the case is determining whether the four minutes it took the diver to enter the water constitute gross negligence.
