Title: Powerlifting's All Time Best Total -
Post by: BB on June 28, 2013, 06:36:27 PM
Jimmy Pacifico, Powerlifting legend Larry Pacifico's boy has been going through some of the old tapes and found a decent copy of Don Reinhoudt's #2391 raw total, which to this day is the highest ever recorded. Originally it was judged as #2420 due to an error with the plates -

.

He also uploaded his dad's #1936 at #198.

.

They many not be interesting to many, but it gives you a glimpse into the early years of the sport.

I thought Kazmaier held the record and it was broken in the early 90's by that south african lifter who competed in WSM?

Reinhoudt is considered the highest raw total, because Kazmaier's squat for his #2425 was done in a single ply squat suit. How much the squat suit gave him on the squat is up for debate, but figure #40 - 50. Gerrit Badenhorst is the South African that beat Kazmaier's total, but it was single ply also for squat and maybe bench.

You may want to take a look at this. Yeah, "Raw" becomes a bit sketchy, but it is still something to be considered. Substantially larger totals overall, with a close grip bench on top of it.

Coan's 1990's supportive gear was better than Reinhoudt's, who just had knee wraps and belt.

Not a knock on Coan, I'd give Coan best overall powerlifter, but Don still takes best raw total.

Speaking of Coan, Two of his long standing deadlift records seems to have competition / were broken, a few hours ago -

#862 at #198 -

.

I'm also hearing #890 at #242 was pulled by Konstantin Pozdeev, no video yet though.

Edit -

#888.8 .

I'm still liking Coan's lifts better, mainly because the bar used at the Russian meet looks to be a special deadlifting bar. No real problem with form, as Coan, himself, was a dual position puller.

Compare -

#198 lift.

.

.

(not the exact Coan record lift, but to give you an idea) .

#242 lift.
