Title: Zimmerman studied Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' law: trial witness
Post by: blacken700 on July 03, 2013, 02:35:31 PM

Former neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was versed in Florida's self-defense laws before he shot and killed unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, despite his previous claim to the contrary, jurors were told at Zimmerman's trial on Wednesday.

The contradiction came into evidence at Zimmerman's murder trial after the judge ruled it was relevant for jurors to hear about the defendant's criminal justice studies.

On Tuesday, Seminole County Judge Debra Nelson let the jury hear a television interview in which Zimmerman said he had no knowledge of Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law, which underpins his trial defense.

An army lawyer who taught Zimmerman in a 2010 college class on criminal litigation, testified that he often covered Florida's self-defense and "Stand Your Ground" laws in his 2010 course. Army Captain Alexis Carter said Zimmerman "was probably one of the better students in the class" calling him an "A" student.

Under the "Stand Your Ground" law, which was approved in 2005 and has been copied in some form by about 30 other states, people fearing for their lives can use deadly force without having to retreat from a confrontation, even when it is possible.

The statute is central to Zimmerman's defense in a case that captivated the United States throughout much of 2012 because of the self-defense argument.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree murder, saying he shot Martin in self-defense during their confrontation inside a gated community in the central Florida town of Sanford on Feb, 26, 2012.

In allowing evidence about Zimmerman's criminal law studies, the judge overruled strenuous objections from Zimmerman's lead lawyer, Mark O'Mara.

I thought the stand your grounds law wasn't in the books he studied?

Zimmerman seems to be quite comfortable lying about anything and everything

That interview with Hannity where he says he has no remorse and wouldn't do anything different if he was able to do it over again is just nuts.   What sane person wouldn't choose to do something different to avoid killing someone.

I think a lot of getbiggers think trayvon was the aggressor and deserved what he got.

BUT

I have yet to hear A SINGLE GETBIGGER who said they believe 100% of what zimmerman said.  He lied about some shit, exaggerated.  Only a fcking fool says "I believe every word he says"

I don't know what happened. I don't pretend to know. What I do know, is that based on the evidence presented thus far, Zimmerman has no business standing trial for murder. It doesn't matter if every single thing he said was 100% accurate. The prosecutor has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a crime was committed. The rest is just nonsense for public consumption.

zimmerman could have lied about everything, its still doesnt prove he murdered trayvon....

yeah, I understand that, but I'm not talking de jure, i'm talking de facto.

I'm talking about the OJ jury that gave his ass 35 YEARS for taking back a trophy froma shady sports dealer lol.  I'm saying there may be jurors that see 5 lies about the shooting and decide to lock him up.  Not because of FL Statute 790.x?x?x?, but because a 90 IQ jury might declare themselves activists.

The prosecution put on an average case - not great and I couldn't vote murder.  Maybe manslaughter, but murder, obviously not.  However, the jury is people, products of the Sanford school system, and they all have their own mission on that jury, ya know?

Tony, de jure is the law.  De facto is the real world.  IMO, the stupider people get, the more de jure we're going to see from them.  Agreed?

there have been inconsistencies in everyones story, do you think they jury will take into account the inconsitencies in jabbas testimony?

everyone lied, but only one kid got his heart shot out his back.

if you want to take the path of capping someone, you have to be the ONE person in the situation that ain't fibbing.

I believe he inteneded to question him about the bike and possibly initiate a fight in which he was on the bottom right as police pulled up - Trayvon gets 6 months in lockup and zimmerman is a fcking local hero for taking on crimnials - literally.  not a bad strategy, if the gun had stayed in the truck.  Given zimm made the call, IF trayvon didn't have a reason to be on that street, the punk kid probably would have gotten some jail time and zimm's status would have bumped up.  More likely he just wanted to hold the kid and get the address so he could drive by and steal his bike back - very common in florida actually, to do this.

I suspect that trayvon initiated the physical contact but I don't think he deserved what he got.

actually, me saying I think zimm wanted to question the punk about his bike makes a lot more sense than "zimmerman was on a mission to execute a high school junior".

and tony, we disagree on a few things, but if shit was hitting the fan and some foreign country or bad guy was raining down bullets on us, is there any grade A idiot liberal you'd rather share a foxhole with, than me?

i suppose zimm was willing to chase after a person he believed to be on drugs and possibly armed (he's reaching for something in his waistband)for other reasons.

What do you think they are?  Just to help out cops?  To me, that level of RISK either shows he believed in it TONS (his own stolen property) or that he was exaggerating his 911 claims (probably more likely).

If trayvon smoked crack in front of him then cocked a .45 before heading into that alley, zimm sitzs in a puddle of piss in his truck and waits for 5.0 to arrive.  exaggerating for the 911 operator seems pretty likely, a lot of people do it.  You just can't do it if you're about to cap someone.

not even worth the time to point out the multiple ASSumptions and lies in this post
