I do. But running is too hard on my knees. Manage to get conditioning in 2-3 times.per.week when.I have time.

I should care about it much more i know, or i am bound to turn out like Cswol, Pumpster, Donkey Kong etc

Just starting to care about it. Bought a bike to commute 30 miles each day to work.

Care more about it than bodybuilding these days. Love watching the permabulkers walk on the treadmill while I run a few miles on 8.5mph, or do incline sprints on the treadmill. Lifting heavy weight used to be gratifying but I'd rather gasp for air and feel like death as opposed to breaking my back on squats.

When I mean running I mean interval type sprints. I run stadiums, do prowler sprints, 300 yard shuttles for time, kettlebell complexes, walk with a sled with weight for a 1/2 mile, etc.

Coach, does this sort of routine really work to improve general conditioning and build up stamina and endurance? And if it does, is it any better than, say, jogging for a couple of miles, or biking up hill? In other words, are these more "exotic" workouts provably better or are more "traditional" ones fine unless you're looking to do sports-specific stuff.

Studying sports at university
I need to be fit all the time to get good marks
Never woke up without sixpack since being 8 y.o.

Thats all I really care about. I run 30 minutes before breakfast every singel day. I also like to swim when I have a chance. As for weightlifting, I can maintain a lot of muscle and strength by going to the gym every 3 weeks, and pump up the Whole body for about 3 hours straight. As a natty, muscle is so easy to hold even With all the conditioning training, as long as the diet is in check. Which of course it always is. 8)
Lets get it.

Frankly I wouldn't give a shit. It's all much more enjoyable than plain running, so that in itself makes it a win.

It's been 27 years since I have sparred or fought in the ring in boxing but nothing is more comical than seeing a bodybuilder box. I think they are delusional from looking in the mirror thinking they can throw hands but then gas after 90 seconds. The heart is a muscle but you can't show it off on the beach so most bodybuilders ignore it.

Absolutely. I don't have ANY of my athletes or even general clientele run long distance for conditioning unless they run marathons, triathlons, etc. It's too hard on ankles, low back, knees and hips from the constant pounding. That being said, no one can be our conditioning. Anytime you add an external load at high intensity, your conditioning will eventually be off the hook.

I do.

A great test of your general conditioning is to see if you can run a 300 yard shuttle in :60
We run this shuttle twice per week..
set up two cones 25 yards apart, up and back is ONE, 50 yards x 6 runs = 300 yards
-
i dont give a fuck
not bb related
Of course it is, especially when burns more fat and retains more muscle than traditional steady state stationary bike, treadmill or elliptical.

Yup, going to do this. This sounds pretty hard to do actually, even for someone that has done state 400s.

And as a permabulker I enjoy watching you treadmill hereos scurry like cockroaches out of the free weight area when I warm up with your heaviest, record breaking weights LOL.....so it goes both ways. And yes, I walk on the treadmill daily in between you runninng treadmill warriors and 103lb girls running sideways and backwards on an insane incline while texting.

If you can get 1:15-1:20. that a decent time. When we do this. We do a total 900-1200 yards starting with a recovery of :90-2:00min between each 300yrd sprint. Each week, we reduce the recovery time while trying to keep the same sprint time.

Nope, if that's the standard then I'm not generally conditioned LOL.

Well, I would say a lot of them are into working out and staying fit, but I cant speak for everyone of course. But nearly all of my homies work out. Thats whats great, we all grew up with a strong bond and common interest. Its so easy to get in touch with new people too, through a sport like bodybuilding.
Heres a chick in my class who likes to work out. Shes a fighter in the gym who does heavy bench, squats, deads, you name it.. she has some videoes of herself pushing some decent weights as well. :)

Now this chick right here is a gem... Got to know her many years ago when I was moderating a Norwegian bodybuilding forum. She started off like me by doing internet picture contests that the bodybuilding forum sponsored. After that, she went for the real deal and got on stage and won her class again and again. :) She has made very big success in Norway and has been on the cover of several magazines. She is a very nice and sweet person as well. Not shallow at all. These chicks dont come around too often! :o
