No need to go back then. You want to be a bodybuilder now? Ditch the squat, bench and military. Shock your body by inducing volume. Train bodyparts now in stead of movements. Concentrate on time under tension and gradually increase training density. Start with 6x6 and build up to 10x10 while reducing time between sets. Do isolation for arms and delts.

You can stay on a three day split. Good options are: 1. Chest and Back, 2. Legs, 3. Shoulders and Arms; or: 1. Chest and Arms, 2. Legs, 3. Shoulders and Back.

i used to train the 5x5 way when i was natural

at 85kg decently lean i did 5x170kg olympic squat, 5x200kg deadlift (with straps and full pause each rep) 5x115kg bench press with pause

my military press was always weak 3 or 5 reps with 70kg but it went way up since taking steroids (like 15x70kg)

currently 25 years steroids since 4-5 months ago, before that about 12 yrs natural i guess

Very good olympic squat but with this deadlift I am wondering if depth was good.

Your routine is excellent tbfh. Oh and BFG has a lot of knowledge, he is a mod on a huge steroid source site.

You're not Arnold, this is too much, this will go at cost of intensity. How long does your workout take? Concentrate more on TRAINING DENSITY (volume within a fixed time frame).

For comments on the routine/exercises send me a pm.

But I strongly advise you to do some basic reading. Ever heard of Vince Gironda? I think the site ironguru.com must be still online. Basic literature for every bodybuilder. I don't say everything he ever said is written in stone, but many top trainers of today got their inspiration there.

In short: go back to 3 times a week, cut the volume a little and go for more intensity and DENSITY.

He's max 8% bf year round, this way he would tear his muscles apart, especially given his age. The only thing I would add is working on flexibility and joint health.

gal I do deadlifts same way nowadays, mostly because my back is very weak and that's the way I'm strongest. my squat is 180kg and deads 220kg.

well that's pretty much the same

5x170kg could be 1x180kg squat on a good day

and i did 5x200kg deadlift as my best, then waited 5 minutes and did 1x220kg

then my back was sore (but not pain) for 2 weeks

pretty much same ratio

I did 160x5 which translated to 180x1. 170x3 at most.

Time under tension is an interesting variable. It seems common belief that 40-70 seconds/set leads to optimal hypertrophy. If this is the case, then 5 reps would be way too low for this goal.

Correct, but the superslow training protocol doesn't lead to optimum gains (reference (http://www.ergo-log.com/regularversussuperslow.html)).
However, superslow is perfect in case you're recovering from an injury.

The 5 x 5 protocol definitely has merit. I have used it in the past and made good gains with it, I think the best gains I made using it was when I did 6 weeks of it followed by 6 weeks of GVT - but I kept the GVT rep ranges in the 5 area instead of 10 and the results were pretty good for me .

Somebody else mentioned (and I gotta agree with 'em ) that you have to play around with and see what ultimately works for you, I know guys who strength train and use 15 rep sets and guys who use 1-3 rep sets and both seem to work really well.

you would get better results if you trained on instinct, just one to two sets per exercise, to failure each set...............and the split is horrible, and when you train arms you get way better results and pump if you do one tricep exercise, then immediately to a bicep exercise...............

mon...chest, light arms, abs, calves
tue....back, light arms
wed...quads, shoulder military press, abs, calves
thrs....hamstrings, shoulders
fri.......arms, abs, calves
sat...full body circuit
sun...rest

Go to the gym do a reasonable amount of sets with a reasonable amount of reps and a reasonable amount of weight with a reasonable amount of rest between sets. If you want to get big take drugs if you want to get even bigger take more.  :D

Yes, i do this now all the time.

I had to force out all the garbage of "warming up" with 4-5sets as to build up to your heaviest.

It's illogical to exhaust yourself in order to lift heavy.

The knock against 5 x 5 was that the volume just isn't enough, and that your done just when you're getting warmed up, etc.... One variation that went around years ago, was a tweak where you did the 5 x 5, then added 1 - 2 higher rep back off sets, 2 x 10 - 12. I always though that was the best way to run it.

Yes, I alway include a warm up before the actual sets. One thing that you don't see mentioned as much in the writings going around on 5 x 5 is that Bill Starr had a pretty decent length warm up ritual before he jumped into things, which got longer as he got older.

yeah I've seen it. Smart.

I have my ritual too.

First thing i do is grab two 5 pound plates and basically bend/squat/twist/press/stretch my body in any direction and plane of motion  i can think of while holding them until i break a sweat.

Jump under the bench and it's the bar for a set, then 135 x2, and 175x2 before i even count a "set". It may seem excessive, but fuck that, I'm in my late 40's...and the last thing i want to be is the beat-up old gym warrior, with the torn pec and bicep, fucked up back.... will never look good again, and is just going through the motions...Not this guy..(knock wood)

Couple of hard sets of basics then as much moderate weight volume as you can take, add drugs for more size.

So three sets of dumbell bench for 8-10 then twenty misc sets of hammer or other machines. Not brain surgery

"Bar muscles" don't make it in real bodybuilding. Biceps and synthol delts might look swell at your local 7-11, but if you want to take on the big boys you better be ready to be embarrassed.

.you need to go on a legit diet, on some trt  from a doc and get down to a healthy fit 200 pounds or so. Then slowly recomposition your body from there...your 6 feet? if you do it right and you stay lean you will never need to weigh more than 220 pounds in your life to look like an absolute monster. 280lbs ::)  give me a break dude. Should of seen me out at the club last night, all these juiced to the gills bouncers mad dogging my whopping 225lb body, these guys were all the typical test heads..250 260 etc....my point is..stats mean shit bro. they mean absolutely fuck all........its comes down to  your frame, muscle shape, structure, andhow much lean muscle you have on you. mark my word there are 190lb guys with legit 17- 18 inch arms all over america who wipe the floor with you.

above average pro arms and pro delts.....chest was never bad just not as good as the other parts.  very thick back...regardless of what sev and the haters said. ,His legs looked beyond good Ive seen pics...thick, muscular seperated legs and calves that any non competitor would be 100% satisfied with. never seen his hams or ass and i dont thnk any straight guy would want to are there things? ;)

lastly Huge quads do not make for a pleasing physique for every day life, at the club, etc... This is coming from a very big, lean dude.... with the exception of forearms and traps every single bodypart on  groink's body at his best was better than mine on my heaviest cycle. arms are about the same size but his are more dense than mine.  I would be smiling ear to ear if i woke up with his legs tomorrow....but Im not training them hard any time soon.

The truth is, I'm not a competitive bodybuilder and have no desire to look like one...I look exactly the way I want to, given my genetics, age and structure.  Looking great in a T shirt and shorts is the reality of my physique aspirations..i don't walk around, the beach with my shirt off , or hit the pool parties.  I'm 49 and my GF would punch me in the balls if I carried on like that. 110%   truth.

I dont keep other guy's legs on my harddrive bro ;D   it was a picture of his quads and calves from a good year or two ago... They resembled   an advanced bodybuilder. big, thick, and seperated that would make any girl wet.......he was in short socks...cargo shorts i believe
Compared to his arms obviously there were not a strength, no shit...if they did he'd have pro size legs, and instead of complimenting his physique id probably laugh at him, as massive  tree trunk thighs look horrible. .

 I havent posted  on this sight in 6 months.... and most certainly did not come here to argue  about another man's quadriceps. IMO the ideal physique for at the gym, everyday life, and the envy of men and lust of women is huge overpowering arms, overpowering  delts- those two parts can never be too big. A tight waiste an average sized waiste (not to shallow though...a waiste too small can make you look like a homo trust me i know and this is one of my problems and why I think some guys can look better with the use of insulin) ,developed but not  oversized traps as it can make one look narrow and a biit "apelike" IMO,, and legs like an elite sprinter/track star. The Chest should be developed but never out of  proportion, especially if you dont have the arms to rock it or you'll look like captain upperbody, a superhero nobody wants to be on halloween. MattyH knows this very well...

its wierd. Some guys can take gear, gain shitloads of weight,  get big and strong, the gear  still "work" but they dont resemble bodybuilders or even weightlifters. I believe insulin resistance  and insulin sensitivity plays a huge role and it is largely related to insulin i mean it has to be..convinced cswole-type 2

.....when I started using FDA HGH, 4iu ed...at first i looked awesome, but with time that stuff made me so insulin resistant. I mean I kept getting leaner and leaner but I  looked flat all the time no matter how much test i took...., went to walmart got my bottle of humulin-R for 25 bucks... and looked like a bodybuilder again  a matter of days.... I dont care what anyone says about insulin I have not used it much but the shit works and works better than any compound i have ever taken. Makes me leaner, tighter, explain that one.

That's what i have heard and seen myself.

Insulin is just SO fucking tricky to figure out...for me anyway , and the results can be all over the map. Also going into a coma isn't great.

That's what i have heard and seen myself.

Insulin is just SO fucking tricky to figure out...for me anyway , and the results can be all over the map. Also going into a coma isn't great.

Not take in enough carbs with your insulin....or something else I'm not aware of., because i did exactly what you are supposed to.   Don't know if "coma" is accurate...I'm using it for effect...but it's not a pleasant experience. Face goes numb, sweating profusely..( like DRENCHED in sweat from head to toe)...chills, sweats...and you just want to go to sleep, as in you can't keep your eyes open.  It's scary.  I did insulin for a week...won't fuck with it ever again.

PS...it's "almost" because as soon as it starts happening, you start wacking down Sugar packets and it stops after 20 minutes or so.

Even that 18 year old kid Bostin Loyd who was running like 5g/week for his California show was ONLY taking 8IU I believe.

Im interested in trying...call me a pussy but my first dose will be like 4-5 IUs. I've been hypo from GHRP-6 before...it sucks, never wanna feel that feeling again.

Maybe  it wasn't 18 , i know it was like a safe dosage. It's a year ago, not 100%   on the details. Maybe 12?

Noted and thanks for the advice.   I'm just soured to it because that sucKed and i don't want to see where that rabbit hole goes if i have a worse reaction. let me give you an example, yesterday in the gym, there was these two frat guys came in the gym, one wearing his kappa fagma shirt, weighed about 165, after I did hammer strength flat bench with 10 plates for 10 reps, then told them they are cupcakes come on over and curl the 100 lb dumbells, after I curled the 100s for 5 reps, these two clowns were shut the fuck down! Meaning.............what ever workout they are doing, whatever size they think they have, whatever strength they think they have, it doesnt matter, they were shut down, on the spot, letting them know their twinky cupcake and lollipop program aint doin shit and dont mean shit! Shut down! Owned!
