Gotta make another trip out west. Fly into SF for a few days then fly down to LA. Just found out SF golds is no longer. Seems the corporate head of Golds donated to some republican and the gays weren't happy about it. So SF Golds didnt resign when their contract was up.
Now its called SF fitness or sump. End of another era. SF golds has/had some great equipment (yeah...someone can bold that n write fixed) so I'm sure that stil where ill work out when I'm in SF.

FOUR GOLD GYMS ARE SWITCHING NAMES
As promised, Gold's Gym this week will become Fitness SF as its contract with the Gold's brand has just run out. Some of you may recall that in 2010, Gold's Gym members (the vast majority of whom, in SF at least, are homosexual) were shocked to learn that the CEO of the gym's parent company had made donations to the conservative group American Crossroads, which was founded by Karl Rove. At the time, the local franchisee, which runs the two San Francisco Gold's Gyms as well as the branches in Oakland and San Rafael, pledged to cut ties with the brand as soon as its current contract expired, which would be September 15, 2012. And that time has come.
Following the outcry from Gold's largely gay clientele, the gym's director of operations Don Dickerson said that "For every dollar we pay Gold's Gym in franchise fees we will donate an equal or greater amount to LGBT charities," and further pledged to form a new brand, now named Fitness SF, which would take effect as soon as the Gold's contract ran out.
Robert Rowling, the billionaire CEO of TRT Holdings which owns the Gold's brand as well as Omni Hotels, says that he donated to Rove's organization solely out of his belief in "fiscal sanity" and not for any anti-gay reasons. Also, he made the $2 million donation in his own name, not under the aegis of his company. Gold's members, knowing how Rove has cynically used homophobic policies and anti-gay-marriage rhetoric to win elections for Republicans over the years, were unmoved, and a signature denouncing the company gained over 10,000 signatures.
Dickerson just told CBS that he's proud to have been able to stand by the two-year-old decision, scrubbing the local Gold's locations of their branding as of this week. "Very rarely in a situation like this does a business stand up and actually take a position on the matter ... Our company has worked for over twenty years to support our LGBT staff, members and community in everyway possible and we will continue to."

The gays mostly do cross fit. Gym should have stayed open.

The Gold's on Valencia & 14th (in SF) was the very first Gold's Gym franchise. It was owned by Dick Ferris, Ed Connors and few other partners. Awesome gym.

Yup, the gays love crossfit. And they also love wearing Calvin Klein v-necked shirts. It's their trademark look.

You sure do seem to know a lot about what gays do and wear. Why is that?

Chris Dickerson did not train at Gold's (SF) on Valencia St to my knowledge. The Gold's on Valencia moved across the street and down to 16th in the ninties and is gone now. I believe the original SF Gold's Valencia opened in 1981. I know it was the first Gold's franchise. Gold's Las Vegas was the 2nd franchise.
Gold's on Valencia was an awesome gym. Great equipment and many excellent Bodybuilders, powerlifters and wrestlers trained there.

The good one's do have a clue. I've heard of people quitting their good jobs to open a CF gym. What kind of balls must one have to quit a good job with only a year or two of training experience (and when I say training, I mean themselves). It's like some of these internet "guru's" who graduate with a kinese/exercise sci degree and start writing articles claiming to be an "expert" when don't have a clue of even how to raise or lower a bar.
Then you have these self proclaimed expert knuckleheads like Nick Tumminello who as of late has became a philosopher and science expert and is now pushing that gimmick. Here you have a dude who's all of 5'4 and 140lbs writing articles about bodybuilding for M&F ::)

In San Jose? long closed down, right? There is a new one off of Monterey Highway. I prefer the Santa Clara Golds

Damn gyms always pick up and move in the night and take your money.
-
The three Golds gym in my area changed names a few years ago. The owners got their membership up and going, then cut ties I guess.

closed down a long long time ago. I was with the first crew when Santa Clara opened way back. Good ol Jerry McCall. He's been called ruthless but one thing he sure made some damn nice gyms. And he was never satisfied. He was constantly changing n adding things n remodeling. How is Santa Clara these days? I'm gonna take a day n visit the old haunts. Most likely take a workout in mountain view. In all my years i never did the Winchester house so Im gonna try n hit that too after I work out.
