You know, this asshole killed innocent people, hurt a lot of others, and you freaking editors put this asshole on the cover. WTF is wrong with you. Nothing to do with music, nothing to do with art, but all this cover is designed to do is make people hurt.
How about putting on the cover a picture of the 19 firefighters who died in Arizona saving lives, homes and people's livings instead of destroying.
Good luck putting this magazine in any stores - it needs to go down in the toilet.

Depicting this kid as a victim and chosing a photo that makes him look like a matinee idol goes beyond provocative. Its yelow journalism and in incredibly poor taste.
The headline says this kid was failed. Bullshit this kid was given every possible opportunity to be successful in this country...Ffs this is the one that survived. His trial hasnt even begun yet.

http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/five-revelations-from-rolling-stones-boston-bomber-cover-story-20130716 (http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/five-revelations-from-rolling-stones-boston-bomber-cover-story-20130716)
In the new issue of Rolling Stone, contributing editor Janet Reitman delivers a deeply reported account of the life and times of Boston bomber Jahar Tsarnaev. Reitman spent the last two months interviewing dozens of sources – childhood and high school friends, teachers, neighbors and law enforcement agents, many of whom spoke for the first time about the case – to deliver a riveting and heartbreaking account of how a charming kid with a bright future became a monster. Here are five revelations about Tsarnaev from our latest cover story, "Jahar's World":
Dropkick Murphys Donate $300,000 to Boston Victims
• As Jahar lay in the boat, surrounded by SWAT teams and police, FBI negotiators mentioned a public plea for his surrender from his former wrestling coach. An agent on the scene later told the coach that it could have been this name from the past – and the memory of that past – both of which were invoked during the standoff, that convinced Jahar to ultimately give up.
• Around 2008, Jahar’s older brother Tamerlan confided to his mother that he felt like "two people" were inside him. She confided this to a close friend who felt he might need a psychiatrist, but Zubeidat believed that religion would be the cure for her son’s inner demons and growing mental instability, and pushed him deeper into Islam.
• Jahar's high school, Cambridge Rindge and Latin, is famously diverse, but Jahar played down the fact that he was a Muslim. As his brother and mother became more religious, he did, however, attend a small Friday prayer group that met at lunchtime, and once got quite upset when a friend who'd converted to Islam talked about it in a casual way. "Islam wasn't casual to Jahar," says one friend. "He took his religion seriously."
• Jahar shared few details of his troubled home life with even his closest friends. In the months leading up to the bombing, his family had disintegrated. His parents were both living in Russia. His two older sisters were estranged. Only Tamerlan, who was becoming increasingly devout and judgmental of all non-Muslims, was still in Boston. When one of Jahar’s friends asked to meet Tamerlan, Jahar said, "No, you don't want to meet him."
• Jahar never spoke about 9/11. Once, though, he let slip to a high school friend that he thought the terrorist attacks could be justified, and pointed to US policies towards Muslim countries and US drone strikes and other attacks as his rationale.

Ho hum. Must be something I'm not getting about why this so objectionable to some folks. Seems to me it'd be useful info to know what factors contributed to the creation of a domestic terrorist like this guy. Could help to ID others who'd commit the same horrible crimes before they have a chance to ruin lives.

It's not this pic on the cover that bothers me. It is the text that tries to make this motherphukker a "victim" ... he "was failed" by his family... "fell into" radical islam ::)
The "man" made his own choices and acted on them. He deserves whatever punishment he receives.

"How could Rolling Stone do something like this?!!"
Really? Some of y'all are truly surprised by this? In this era of the unwashed, desensitized masses?
Look at this very website we frequent EVERY SINGLE DAY LOL.
Photos of terrorists, "bombers", war mongers, child molesters, pornographers and serial killers have been on magazine covers for 40 years now.
If you wanted, I'm sure you could find a reputable website running collected footage of the bombings all set to the Benny Hill theme song.
Seriously, some of the most popular shows on tv today are Breaking Bad, Dexter and the Walking Dead LOL.....drug dealer, serial killer and rampant gore and death.

Yes, we talk about it on the forums, on threads, pictures, like news stories. What you DON'T see is me putting this sick terrorist on the front page of the website, or even glorifying him in the News & Views part of the site where it is permanent. That is a big difference in my mind. They want a story about this idiot, fine. Put it in the magazine. But on the cover, all dolled up. Fuck Rolling Stone. This guy is a terrorist. Not a model, not a 'poor' boy that got off on the wrong track. A freaking terrorist, whose main target was to kill and hurt as many people as he could, preferably women and children watching the marathon. Sick.
Just imagine if one of the victims had a subscription to the magazine. Hey, lets put this issue on the table in the living room. Stupid move by the editor.
Nice cover. A smart editor would of thought of something like this.

Maybe it is their response to having one of their best writers murdered by the government. Maybe they are doubting the Tsarnaiv (sp) brothers are guilty? Also bear in mind he has not been convicted of the crime in court - so they are wrong when they call him the bomber.
-

Lol. So let me get this straight, it's wrong for a retailer to pull a magazine from their own shelves, and its not communist or gestapo tactics to mandate that the retailer sell that magazin?.
You don't see the hhypocrisy of your own post? It is a free market. Rolling Stone is free to publish and sell whatever they want. Target or CVS or whoever else is free to buy and still whatever product they want.

I'm just surprised that others are surprised this terrorist pic is on the cover. The fact that we're discussing it like we are validates that Rolling Stone has achieved a desired end by doing so. I also prefer this Getbig made cover over the other. I'm sure Rolling Stone proposed several covers and in the end $$$ took precedence over class.
In think in some small part the assumption here might be that I support what Rolling Stone did....that's simply not the case. I'm repulsed by it; further, I'm actually relieved people are upset. I'm not anti-information, pro-censorship, etc....I am pro-taste and pro-tact (certainly those terms are relative). I'm also "pro-good guy" and this cover is all about glorifying the bad guy.....exactly what today's masses tend to prefer in their entertainment.
In this case Rolling Stone pulled a Getbig with a "buttons pushed, mission accomplished" approach.
On a sidenote, it's obvious you don't promote a specific political, cultural or religious agenda on your site....that's why you site is loved by many. Virtually every topic is allowed to be discussed and many topics have their own their own forums (which are moderated). The core is bb (and pl and wl), but it's become much more than that for many, many members. Still, there's no denying that the culture on Getbig is vastly different than many, many others sites out there.....and that's what members love. Some even say it's too tame LOL!
-
Fuck Rolling Stone.

1. It isn't exceedingly obvious that this is a 'glorification' of terrorism.
2. It is also nothing new — OBL appeared on Times' cover a mere two weeks after the September 11th attacks, and to this day his surname remains renowned worldwide (denoting the largest construction firm in the world and all). Life moves on, no matter how tragic the event.
3. People expressing outrage need to answer the question: "When would it be acceptable to have Mr Tsarnaev [too lazy to look up the correct spelling] on a magazine cover?" The answer will necessarily be subjective, mired in vagueness (unless you think 'exactly x days' is appropriate, which would be silly). Then it must be asked, "Why should your particular answer dictate everyone else's behavior in this case? What's so special about your opinion?"
4. As has already been said, the market will decide the matter. If you don't like the product, act accordingly as a market participant.
5. Finally, the publishing of this issue is consistent with certain enshrined principles regarding free speech, not endangering anyone. So if we support those principles, we ought to support the right for this cover to be published unhampered, whether we happen to like it or not.

Move over Justin Bieber, America’s latest teen heartthrob is none other than Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the teenage suspected Boston Marathon bomber who is winning over the hearts of teenage girls all across the United States.
Girls claiming Dzhokhar, also known as Jahar, is too cute to be a terrorist is actually a real thing going on right now. From Tumblr pages to Twitters supporting Dzhokhar, the 19-year-old terrorist suspect has teen girls pouring out their support for him.
Between memes and gifs highlight Jahar, there are all sorts of peculiar messages sent by supporters of the suspected terrorist.
I hate to break it to these young girls with their fantasies, but a tweet can’t prove his innocence, and if the reports of him shooting at police and throwing pressure cooker bombs in order to get away on that fateful Thursday evening that saw his older brother, Tamerlan, killed are true, then there isn’t much hope for young Dzhokhar in our judicial system.
One blog claims to support Dzhokhar because “he’s attractive,” but not his older brother because “he’s gross.” Yup, this is real life.
There may not be hope for this upcoming generation after all.

Yes I also believe Tbombs got man of the year once
I was man of the year. I know you have seen my cover.
-
1. It isn't exceedingly obvious that this is a 'glorification' of terrorism.
Thought you were being sarcastic until I read your other points. Get your head out of your ass.
2. It is also nothing new — OBL appeared on Times' cover a mere two weeks after the September 11th attacks, and to this day his surname remains renowned worldwide (denoting the largest construction firm in the world and all). Life moves on, no matter how tragic the event.
Time is a news magazine. Rolling Stone typically pictures entertainment and music celebs. No comparison.
What are you rambling about? When would it be appropriate? When it's a music magazine, never! That's why many people are justifiably expressing their "opinion."
4. As has already been said, the market will decide the matter. If you don't like the product, act accordingly as a market participant.
God damn right. Hope this is the "jumped the shark" moment for the rag and they cease publishing sooner rather than later.
5. Finally, the publishing of this issue is consistent with certain enshrined principles regarding free speech, not endangering anyone. So if we support those principles, we ought to support the right for this cover to be published unhampered, whether we happen to like it or not.
Glorifying this killer could motivate others, thus endangering us. Again, get your head out of your ass.

I think it's fair to say that the burden of proof is on those making a positive claim: that this cover/article is glorifying terrorism. So, good luck.
Time is a news magazine. Rolling Stone typically pictures entertainment and music celebs. No comparison.
Rolling Stone consistently functions as a news magazine, as the article under discussion and other examples indicate (e.g., their infamous interview with former ISAF commander, General McChrystal). More generally, they are a part of popular media, so the comparison is apt.
What are you rambling about? When would it be appropriate? When it's a music magazine, never! That's why many people are justifiably expressing their "opinion."
Once again, Rolling Stones consistently functions as a news magazine, something that seems to me within their right to do. The issue isn't whether people may justifiably express their opinion (of course they can), it's whether the expressed opinion is justified. Why does your mere personal opinion have preference over opposing ones? Why do you get to dictate what magazines may justifiably print?
Glorifying this killer could motivate others, thus endangering us. Again, get your head out of your ass.
This argument could be applied to a huge variety of media in order to justify censorship ("that Call of Duty mission glorified killing civilians so we'd better censor this video game just in case!"). Needless to say, this is an extremely authoritarian view inconsistent with the basic principles of this country, to say nothing of the unlikelihood of ever demonstrating that a cover like this "causes" another attack.
-
You obviously can't see that this is just plain wrong, so going back and forth with you is rather pointless.
If you knew someone who was injured or killed, it might help you step outside of whatever world you are living in and see this for what it is.
Glorifying a terrorist killer. Plain and simple.

What's with all this "pull the magazine" crap?!! Is this Communist China? What a bunch of PC whiners...
Welcome to the USA where you have the right to say and write what you want. If you don't like it...dont buy the fucking magazine!
It's called a free market. Keep your gestapo tactics in your third world shit hole.
I'm amazed that it took till reply 66 till someone posted this.
Are there any Americans left in the USA? Freedom of what?

Glad there are some people with some sense behind the stores who refuse to sell the magazine.
True, it's a free market.
So ... feel free to run a business that sells publications and sell this rag. No one is stopping you.

Seriously, some of the most popular shows on tv today are Breaking Bad, Dexter and the Walking Dead LOL.....drug dealer, serial killer and rampant gore and death.
But at least shows like Dexter have a moral core. There is a karmic reckoning where morally flawed characters get pay back. With Rolling Stone it's just....it's just pure shit.

But...but, what will they do if they can't be outraged over something!?
-
Amazing that so many on here think this is OK. No wonder our country is going to sh*t.
It's also amazing that so many people casually throw out the word "censorship" when it really doesn't apply.
Because a few level-headed vendors and consumers say they don't want to sell or buy this crap, doesn't mean it's censorship.

Moves like this make it look like the Hierarchy is in bed with the Muslims...

Bullshit, people are posting the names of editors, and some here are openly calling for death for the editors. If that isn't pure censorship and murderous extremism, then what is? Fucking hypocrit.
Plus why would anyone want to read about the victims? Yay, you got hurt by standing too close to a bomb. What does reading that story teach me? I'd rather get some insight into the mind of a killer, so that such an attack can be *gasp* prevented in future.

Typical liberal bullshit. "Understand" the killer. Fuck him!
-
If they had to put him on the cover, it should have been one of the pics where he is climbing out of the boat. All bloody, hands in the air, and a nice sniper scope right on his forehead.
-
You know, this asshole killed innocent people, hurt a lot of others, and you freaking editors put this asshole on the cover.
What about when they put Obama or Bush on the cover? Look at the millions they have killed between them around the world, under false pretenses and lies. Nothing to do with music or art either. Although I hear W. does paint now. People want a free press, until something is printed they don't like or agree with. Don't buy it, simple solution. The marketplace will dictate what they print, based on what sells, or doesn't sell.
-

jesus christ wtf is wrong with you. cant you think for yourself? The magazine hasnt been censored. Rolling stone can publish and sell whatever the fuck it wants. CVS can purchase and sell whatever the fuck it wants. It is a free market economy thats why a retailer doesnt have to carry and item that could cost it business. That aside Rolling stone is owned by a mass media conglomorate which are essentially the bane of free market economies...lol at some of you comming to the aide of poor old rolling stone, whose just trying to engage in provocative yellow journalism ::)

Agreed. I think it's trash.... but those people are acting no differently that the muslim extremists calling for the deaths of cartoon artists. I guess people are no different, no matter what there culture is.

Are you out of your fucking mind?
You can't tell the difference between crazy fuckers calling for death over a cartoon and people angry over glorifying a terrorist on the cover of a magazine.
Man, I'm really losing hope that there will be less and less Patriotic Americans in existance when my kids grow up.
At least Ron, who started this thread and site, gets it.

A Massachusetts State Police photographer who released stark photos to a local magazine of the capture of Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev faces a hearing to determine if he will be suspended until an internal investigation is complete.
Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio says the agency didn't authorize Sgt. Sean Murphy to release photos of Tsarnaev to Boston Magazine. He says Murphy has been relieved of duty for one day after he released the photos in response to a controversial image on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

I was implying that people sending the editors death threats are no different thanul muslim extremists calling for the death of someone who insulted Islam. This country was founded with freedom of speech. A true patriot would understand tbat means you have to protect that freedom, no matter how reprehensible you may think it is. Once you start censpring things you dont like, you no longer have freedom of speech, period. So as disgusting as I think the cover is, it is still very much their right to run it.
-
OK, I have not read about death threats to the Rolling Stone editors.
Got a link I can check out?
I have no issue with Rolling Stone's right to run it.
I do take issue with people who can't see that it was a disrespectful decision.
Hope the decision hurts the mag in the long run.

all in the name of selling magazines....if TIME magazine did the same, I would understand the content, but this is ridiculous
-
I think its in poor taste but I would never ban anyone from doing it. The best way to protest is to not buy the magazine. Rollingstone, like a lot of print, are desperate for relevancy and profit in the Internet age.
-
Where's the same condemnation when mainstream media repeatedly featured the Tsarnaev brothers in the wake of the Boston bombings? The same hypocritical media that are now decrying the Rollin Stone cover. Such media provide the same infamy they claim to condemn. Why is it acceptable to have excessive tv coverage, but a magazine cover incites outrage?

Jann Wenner, who co-founded Rolling Stone magazine and also was a co-founder of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, has been removed from the hall’s board of directors after making comments that were seen as disparaging toward Black and female musicians.
“Jann Wenner has been removed from the Board of Directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation,” the hall said Saturday, a day after Wenner’s comments were published in a New York Times interview.
Asked why he didn’t interview women or Black musicians, Wenner responded: “It’s not that they’re inarticulate, although, go have a deep conversation with Grace Slick or Janis Joplin. Please, be my guest. You know, Joni (Mitchell) was not a philosopher of rock ’n’ roll. She didn’t, in my mind, meet that test,” he told the Times.
“Of Black artists — you know, Stevie Wonder, genius, right? I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level,” Wenner said.
