This around the time, 91-92, that a 14 year old Archy picked up his first Ironman magazine...no homo.  Great vid, coach.   Benfatto was a great poser.

A bodybuilder leaves nothing to chance on the day of the show.

When i am ready to kill myself i will take some poison then tie a rope around my neck and jump off a bridge and i will have a gun to my head pulling the trigger as i jump plus strap a bomb around my chest that will explode in 30 seconds cause these day you cannot leave anything to chance.

I was at the '91 Ironman. I knew John Balik personally, and got 5th row tickets from him.

Vince tore his pec around 1986,did a few pro shows with nabba, last time isaw him he was taxi driving,he was picking up a fare from the club i worked at,still looked pretty big though.
Billy was the biggest freakiest guy i ever met with incredible shape.
Are you thinking of Andy Hornby,he died backstage, from what i was told he started choking on some potatoes while he was carbing up.

Guy had a really hard way of approaching contests, he always looked very ill at shows with his face sunken and eyes staring.
I think it was heart failure that killed him, he was at the Mr England show at the time.

yeh thats him, andy hornby... all the older guys around newcastle would always talk about him

billy payne had an amazing physique, one of me pals claimed him and dorian trained together before yates turned pro

Thats right,Billy used to go to birmingham to train with Dorian, think it was around 89-1990,thats the year billy qualified for the british beating Mick Theo, but got injured before the finals and Mick won the heavies that year.
Are you from Newcastle then,my nephew is up there studying to be a doctor, absolutely loves the place.

yeh, live just outside newcastle, its a great place for students, excellent night life and friendly people in general..

we had some amazing bodybuilders in the late 80's, when you think the likes of billy payne and gary taylor couldnt even get a pro card
